The switch operated therapeutic agent delivery device may have two parts, which are assembled by a user prior to use. These devices may be configured to determine if a current is present between the anode and cathode when drug is not intended to be delivered by the device. These devices may indirectly control and/or monitor the applied current without directly measuring from the cathode of the patient terminal. 1. A biosensing meter receives a sample strip that includes electrically isolated sense and excitation electrodes bridged by a reaction zone. When a drop of biological sample fluid is placed in the reaction zone, a plurality of fail/safe tests are performed. A drop size test is performed by a circuit that detects the size of the drop placed in the reaction zone. The circuit both detects that a drop has been placed in the reaction zone and further measures a test current level, after a delay, to determine that the drop size is sufficient to enable hydration of reactants in the reaction zone. Subsequently, during the reaction, a "delta" current change is measured at succeeding sample time. This test measures the difference between succeeding current samples during a measurement time. If each succeeding sample is not less than preceding sample by a delta value, a determination is made that the current is not monotonically decreasing and the test is aborted. At the termination of the measurement time, a current sum test is performed wherein a processor calculates a linear sum of all sample test currents and calculates a ratio between that sum and the last current sample. If that ratio matches a pre-calculated constant for the Cottrell relationship, then it is known that the measurement values exhibit the Cottrell relationship.

A feedback circuit is connected between the second of the spaced-apart contacts and another input to the operational amplifier, to feed back a potential appearing at the second contact. The feedback is for the purpose of maintaining the output of the operational amplifier at a level which compensates for impedance losses in the swtiching circuit. The feedback circuit enables the output of the operational amplifier to be varied so that the potential applied to the electrode is equal to the source of excitation potential. A further circuit is connected to the feedback circuit for sensing when an open or high impedance state exists between the spaced-apart contacts.

A biosensing system is described which determines whether a measured current is varying in accordance with a predetermined Cottrell current relationship. The system includes a test cell with at least a pair of electrodes which extend into a reaction zone, which reaction zone includes analyte reactants. An analog signal detector, in combination with a microprocessor, take plurality of current measurements between the electrodes over a plurality of succeeding measurement times, after a sample is placed in contact with the analyte reactants in the reaction zone. The microprocessor also stores a plurality of succeeding cpmparison constants which are derived by taking the inverse ratio of the square root of a measurement time divided by the square root of a subsequent measurement time. The microprocessor selects a pair of succeeding measurement times; derives a ratio of the currents measured at those times; and then compares the ratio of those currents with the comparison constant previously derived for the pair of succeeding measurement times. If the comparison indicates that the measured current ratio is dissimilar from the comparison constant, an indication is developed that the current between the electrodes is not varying in accordance with the Cottrell relationship. The plurality of current measurements are also used to calculate total charge transferred, Q. Q can then be used as a second means of calculating the final result.

A bar linkage for a pipe coupling can include a first bar configured to span two end rings of the pipe coupling; a second bar configured to span the two end rings of the pipe coupling; and a single tensioner extending through each of the first bar and the second bar and joining the first bar to the second bar along an axis of the bar linkage in an assembled condition of the bar linkage, the tensioner configured to draw the first bar towards the second bar, the first bar and the second bar able to be angled with respect to each other and with respect to the axis of the pipe coupling in a tightened condition of the pipe coupling when viewing the bar linkage from the top when the pipe coupling couples pipes of unequal diameter.
