The invention discloses a nickel-base biomass tar steam reforming catalyst and a preparation method thereof. The catalyst takes gamma-Al2O3 as a carrier and comprises the following components in percentage by mass: 10 to 35 percent of NiO, 8 to 30 percent of CeO2, and the balance of the gamma-Al2O3; and preferably, the catalyst comprises the following components in percentage by mass: 20 to 28 percent of the NiO, 85 to 25 percent of the CeO2, and the balance of the gamma-Al2O3. The preparation method comprises the following steps of: co-flowing and co-precipitating aqueous solution and weak alkali solution of a nickel salt, a cerium salt and an aluminum salt; performing calcination after the processes of ageing, filtering, drying and dewatering; and performing molding to obtain the catalyst. The catalyst has the characteristics of simple preparation method and high activity, and is suitable for the steam reforming process of a biomass gasification tar.
