A hardenable multi-part acrylic composition having at least two parts that react upon mixing to form a cement, such as bone cement, which hardens to a solid is described that includes storage stable liquid first and second parts, and optionally, further liquid parts. The parts react upon mixing to form a cement that hardens to a solid. The composition includes an acrylic monomer component and an initiator component in an amount effective to polymerize the acrylic monomer component when mixed and/or activated with it. The liquid first part comprises an aqueous dispersion of acrylic polymer particles and acrylic polymer beads. The polymer beads are at an equilibrium water content with the aqueous phase of the dispersion that generally has a viscosity between 10 and 10,000 centipoise. A twin barrelled syringe, caulking gun or other cement mixing and delivery device and a method of producing the composition are also described. 1. The present invention relates to the deposition of a micro-crystalline hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate coating onto gutta-percha cones, to be used as dental composite for root canal filling. The method proposed for coating involves the surface pretreatment of gutta-percha cones with sodium hydroxide; immersion of gutta-percha cones in simulated body fluid, which contains calcium and phosphate ions; and replacing consumed simulated body fluid after an interval of time, at physiological pH and temperature. The nucleation process results in the biomimetic deposition of a thin and uniform layer of calcium phosphates and hydroxyapatite. Improved characteristics such as in sealing ability, bonding strength, and ability to form hermetic seal, therefore allows the dental composite produced, to be used appropriately as filling matter in root canal treatments.

A method of applying a dental sealant composition to a surface of a tooth or dental restoration is provided. The method involves the steps of providing a sealant composition comprising a filler system of colloidal silica particles dispersed within a methacrylate or acrylate resin and a polymerization system capable of being activated by light. The nanometer-sized silica particles have an average particle size of about 10 nm to about 100 nm. The composition is irradiated with light, preferably blue visible light having a wavelength in the range of about 400 to about 500 nm, so that it hardens. The hardened sealants provide a strong, non-tacky surface finish over a dental restoration or tooth.

A temporary cosmetic dental coating has a transparent resin matrix containing embedded glass microspheres. The refractive index of the microspheres is at least 0.03 greater than the refractive index of the transparent resin matrix. Incoming light is reflected back in the same direction as it was emanated, providing a lustrous dental coating that is cosmetically appealing and covers dental defects and discoloration. The transparent resin matrix with glass microspheres is formed by mixing together a methacrylate based liquid monomer of methyl methacrylate or BIS-GMA and glass microspheres coated with activators/catalysts. The user applies the mixed composition to the teeth to form a temporary cosmetic dental coating, which is readily removed using a dental pick. A lac resin dissolved in ethyl alcohol is optionally mixed with glass microspheres and applied to teeth surfaces. The coating is hardened by alcohol evaporation and removed by alcohol dissolution.
