A piercing tool for metal sheets, particularly for the motor vehicle industry is hydraulically operated, and to improve its manoeuvrability is formed with a body in the shape of a right angle. The working head (4) operates as a pressure multiplier, and is connected to the piercing cylinder (8) by a chamber (7A) at the junction point between them. This cylinder houses a double acting piston (19) inside another chamber (7B) permanently fed by fluid at a low or medium pressure. Over this piston (19) slides a sleeve (25) acting as a hydraulic sealing member. Its diameter is less than the inside diameter of the first chamber (7A). A spring loaded valve (17) controls the fluid supply to the pressure multiplier.

A piercing or embossing press suitable for large sheets, has an upper tool carrying a spindle designed for easy and fast tool changing. This spindle travels inside an outer sleeve operated by an hydraulic system for both piercing or embossing operations. The hydraulic pressure is fed to an annular chamber between the spindle and sleeve. The hydraulic circuit is connected by a hole through the side of the sleeve, and the top of the chamber is formed by a piston integral with the spindle. The bottom of the chamber is formed by the annualr embossing portion which protrudes from the sleeve. In an alternative design, a piston is incorporated on the top of the spindle, with two connections to a hydraulic circuit above and below the piston.
