A wood preservative includes injectable particles comprising one or more sparingly soluble copper salts. The copper-based particles are sufficiently insoluble so as to not be easily removed by leaching but are sufficiently soluble to exhibit toxicity to primary organisms primarily responsible for the decay of the wood. Exemplary particles contain for example copper hydroxide, basic copper carbonate, copper carbonate, basic copper sulfates including particularly tribasic copper sulfate, basic copper nitrates, copper oxychlorides, copper borates, basic copper borates, and mixtures thereof. The particles typically have a size distribution in which at least 50% of particles have a diameter smaller than 0.25 μm, 0.2 μm, or 0.15 μm. At least about 20% and even more than 75% of the weight of the particles may be composed of the substantially crystalline copper salt. Wood or a wood product may be impregnated with copper-based particles of the invention.

A method for treating cellulosic material comprising:(a) introducing the cellulosic material to be treated into a vessel;(b) introducing a treating composition into the vessel in an amount sufficient to immerse the cellulosic material therein, and thereafter providing a pressure within the vessel for a time sufficient to permit the treating composition to permeate the cellulosic material, wherein the treating composition is an aqueous alkaline copper containing solution comprising about 0.01 wt. % to about 10 wt. % copper tetraammine carbonate, the treating composition optionally further comprising one or more of an insecticide, mold inhibitor, algaecide, bactericide, water repellant, colorant or corrosion inhibitor;(c) removing from the vessel any treating solution not introduced into the cellulosic material after immersion;(d) introducing carbon dioxide into the vessel; and(e) removing the treated cellulose material from the vessel,wherein the cellulosic material is Southern Pine, Douglas Fir, Hem Fir or Spruce-Pine Fir.79. Citrus canker caused by the bacterium subsp. (Xac) is an economically important disease of citrus worldwide. Biofilm formation plays an important role in early infection of Xac on host leaves. In this study, we assessed the hypothesis that small molecules able to inhibit biofilm formation reduce Xac infection and enhance the control of citrus canker disease. D-leucine and 3-indolylacetonitrile (IAN) were found to prevent biofilm formation by Xac on different abiotic surfaces and host leaves at a concentration lower than the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Quantitative real time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis indicated that IAN repressed expression of chemotaxis/motility-related genes in Xac. In laboratory experiments, planktonic and biofilm cells of Xac treated with D-leucine and IAN, either alone or in combination, were more susceptible to copper (CuSO4) than those untreated. In greenhouse assays, D-leucine and IAN applied alone, or combined with copper reduced both the number of canker lesions and bacterial populations of Xac on citrus host leaves. This study provides the basis for the use of foliar-applied biofilm inhibitors for the control of citrus canker alone or combined with copper-based bactericides. 1. Wood color has an important economical impact on wood products. The hardwood lumber industry has shown a particular increase in demand by their customers for wood with an attractive, consistent and specified color. Fungi are a specific group of micro-organisms that can affect wood color. Some fungi produce various colourful pigments during their growth and can produce a preferable uniform color on wood products. The present invention includes methods to use selected fungi for producing various commercially desirable colors on wood and wood products. The methods include manners of fungal selection, culturing conditions, wood treating procedure, incubation timeframe, and drying process. The present invention also describes the wood produced by the method.

The dispersion comprises additive particles with diameters in the range of 0.001 to 25 microns.
