An apparatus for synchronizing the movement of glass sheets through a furnace includes a stop for holding the sheets at the entrance to the furnace. An actuator is responsive to a synchronizing signal for moving the stop and releasing the sheet into the furnace. A reference point sensor detects a reference point associated with a rotating conveyor roller adjacent the entrance to the furnace when the reference point is in a predetermined spatial relationship to the glass sheet which is being held at the entrance. Thus, each glass sheet enters the furnace and engages the conveyor rollers in the same position such that any roller corrugation pattern is reproduced in the same position on each glass sheet. When two such glass sheets are laminated together to form a windshield, the roller corrugation patterns can be matched to reduce the optical distortion produced by the corrugation.

Dropping-roller and like sheet feeds; sheet carriers and separators.-Sheet-feeding mechanism of the kind in which the: sheets are separated by a pneumatic separator and are fed by tapes or bands carried by oscillating arms which canse the sheets to be gripped between the tapes and fixed bowls or pulleys, is .constructed so that the tapes 3 pass over pulleys 2 which are supported by adjustable brackets 12 carried by a cross-bar 10 mounted on a pair of oscillating arms 9 on a shaft 6. To ensure accurate feeding of the sheets, the pulleys 2 are constructed so that the tapes 3 pass over portions a of the pulley which are separate from the portions b which engage the fixed bowls or rollers 5 frictionally when the arms 3 are raised after the separation of a sheet by a suction separator. To mount the pulleys 2, they are formed with recesses c, d which receive a projection g on a pin 14, and a boss 12a on the bracket 12 respectively.

A drive mechanism automatically drives the retard pad between the first and second positions in response to the detected characteristic.

A multi-function peripheral having an automatic document feeding device (ADF) suited for being configured in a body of an apparatus is provided. The apparatus has a first and second power sources to drive the ADF to transmit a paper in or out of the body. The ADF includes a limiting structure, a swinging member and a blocking member. The first and second power sources drive the limiting structure and the swinging member to swing respectively. The blocking member has a first end connected to the swinging member and a second end extending toward the limiting structure. When the limiting structure is at a second position and the swinging member swings toward a third position, the second end is trapped into the limiting space.
