A yarn winding device is fed from a supply with yarn which passes through pref. a main tensioner and is wond onto a take-up bobbin to provide a cross-wound package, the yarn pref. being guided onto the package by a helically grooved guide roll. When a break occurs or the trailing end of a yarn from one supply is to be joined to yarn from another supply, the ends of yarn are pieced up by a piecing up device. An auxiliary tensioning device is provided between the package and the piecing up device to tension the yarn as winding re-commences. No slack is allowed in the yarn after piecing up thereby ensuring a correct layer of yarn windings on the package.

Profile Actuated Cable Wrapping Apparatus A cable-wrapping apparatus is provided for applying cable to a toroidal, non-cylindrically-shaped body under uniform tension and with a uniform spacing. The machine includes a shuttle rotatable about a transverse section of said body, which body is being rotated in a plane transverse to the plane of rotation of the shuttle. A compensating apparatus is provided on the shuttle and includes a profile follower roller held in contact with the surface of the body by centrifugal force created by the rotation of the shuttle. A compensator wheel on the compensating apparatus moves with the follower roller to control storing of cable during periods of low cable demand and paying out the stored cable during periods of high cable demand.

Pairs of washers (7,8;9,10) are threaded freely onto two of the pins to grip the wire between them. A tension regulator (11) mounted on a column (12) on the support has a pivoting shaft (13) biased by a spring connected to it by a spindle (16) at one end, and fixed to an adjustable stop (17) at the other end. An arm (18) carried by the shaft terminates in a second eyelet (19) guiding the wire at its free end. A breakage indicator on the regulator has a lever (22) fixed to the shaft engaging the contact (20) of a switch (21). USE/ADVANTAGE - For loudspeaker coil or magnetic reading head. Tension regulator compensates for vibration.

A motorized yarn-winding drum holds a plurality of loops of yarn wound thereon and is driven to rotate for drawing said yarn from a reel and feeding it to a general downstream machine. A movable guiding member is biased to slideably engage the yarn unwinding from the drum and to deviate its path, by a spring acting in contrast to the tension of the yarn, thereby generating a reserve releasable in response to tension peaks on the yarn. The stroke of the guiding member is limited by a stop defining a position of maximum deviation of the yarn. The spring has one end operatively connected to the guiding member and one opposite end connected to driving elements operable for applying a load to the spring, with the guiding member abutting against said stop. The driving elements are controlled by a control unit which is programmed to adjust the load as a function of a desired feeding tension.

The invention relates to a jockey-roller device for synthetic fibre tows, with a pneumatic piston/cylinder unit (14, 15) for influencing the tensile stress and a hydraulic piston/cylinder unit (17, 18) for damping the movement of the jockey roller (7). The two piston/cylinder units (14, 15; 17, 18) are articulated at their lower end on the footplate of the machine frame (1) and at their upper end on the upper part of the carriage (2), to which the jockey roller (7) is fastened. The pneumatic cylinder (15) can be loaded on both sides. Its lower compressed-air connection is loaded with a constant pressure which corresponds to the weight of the jockey roller (7) and of the parts connected to it.
