Plastic composition for plastic facing sheets and adhesives

Номер: DE0003336743A1
Принадлежит:

Plastic compositions for the production of plastic facing sheets should be sufficiently elastic and reliably bondable, and in addition fire prevention demands are made. It has been found that plastic compositions which allow both the production of a plastic facing sheet and the preparation of an adhesive for these facings can be produced on a vinyl basis with addition of plasticisers, the necessary elasticity and flame resistance being achieved by employing as plasticisers, chlorinated alkyl compounds and/or organic phosphoric acid esters. The structure of the facings is achieved by structure-forming additives, added fibres preventing the facings cracking when bent around tight corners.

Polyvinyl acetate hydrolysed to not more than 55 per cent and soluble in methanol is made by the alcoholysis of polyvinyl acetate in the presence of excess methanol, an alkaline alcoholysis catalyst, e.g. sodium hydroxide, in an amount not more than 15 per cent of the stoichiometric equivalent of the polyvinyl acetate, and water in an amount between 6.7 and 20 per cent by weight of the whole reaction solution. If desired, methyl acetate may replace up to 20 per cent by weight of the methanol. Films may be cast from methanol solutions of the polyvinyl alcohol-acetate and if desired the solutions may contain a water-soluble plasticizer such as glycerine, monacetin, diacetin or glycol. Fluid Activatable Adhesives and Fluids for Activating Same for Use With Liner-Free Labels

Номер: US20140045976A1
Принадлежит: NuLabel Technologies, Inc.

Fluid activatable adhesive compositions and activating fluid(s) for activating the adhesive composition are described herein. The adhesive compositions contain at least two polymers with different hydrophilicities. The hydrophilic polymer has quick tack when exposed to a hydrophilic solvent, such as water or other aqueous solvent, while the hydrophobic polymer provides strong adhesion to a paper or polymeric substrate. The adhesive composition may contain particulate fillers which enable fast exhaustion of the activation fluid out of the adhesive when applied to a substrate, thereby allowing the hydrophobic polymers of the adhesive composition to achieve strong adhesion of the liner-free label to the paper or polymeric substrate. The particulate fillers may also function as anti-blocking agents when liner-free label media are tightly wound in a roll. The adhesive compositions described herein may be used not only on paper, cardboard, and metal, but also on glass and plastics commonly used in commercial applications. 1. Aqueous laminating construction adhesive compositions incorporating a one-part adhesive copolymer, the copolymer being a vinyl ester/acrylic copolymer containing from about 0.1% to about 20%, by weight based on copolymer weight, of a copolymerized polar monomer, the copolymer having a Tg from about 10° C. to about -35 C. are provided which exhibit a good balance of high temperature and ambient temperature adhesion performance in a one-part adhesive composition.

Номер: US6319978B1
Принадлежит: Air Products and Chemicals Inc

The present invention is directed to improved vinyl acetate ethylene pressure sensitive adhesive emulsion polymers. The improvement in the aqueous based, emulsion polymerized pressure sensitive adhesives resides in: a high ethylene content copolymer having a Tg of from −25 to −70° C.; a tensile storage modulus measured at one hertz and at a temperature of −20° C. embraced by the points on a plot of storage modulus and temperature of from 1 times 10 6 and the points 4 times 10 9 dynes/cm 2 and less that 1 times 10 7 dynes/cm 2 measured at 50° C.
