A process for preparing organic thioethers of formula R-S-R, in which R is an aliphatic, aryl, arylaliphatic or heterocyclic radical and R 1 is an aliphatic or arylaliphatic radical, from organic dithiocarbonates and organic halides or sulphonates, in the presence of an aqueous alkaline base and a phase transfer catalyst, at a temperature of between 50° and 100°C for a time of 10-60 minutes. The process allows the preparation of large classes of products used as dyestuff and pharmaceutical intermediates, and as pesticides herbicides, oxidation inhibitors, lubricating oil additives and the like.

A lubricating composition comprising:(a) an oil of lubricating viscosity;(b) an asphaltene dispersant comprising an amide group; and(c) a detergent derived from an alkyl phenol.2. The composition of wherein the asphaltene dispersant is substantially free of cyclic headgroup that contains a nitrogen atom.6. The composition of wherein: Ris monounsaturated; or Ris derived from polyisobutylene; or X is derived from a polyalkylene polyamine; or combinations thereof.7. The composition of wherein the alkyl phenol detergent is present at 1 percent by weight or more in the overall composition.8. Disclosed is a lubricating oil composition comprising (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. in a range of about 2 to about 50 mm/s; (b) a hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant; (c) a borated hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant; and (d) a hydrocarbyl succinimide post-treated with a post-treating agent selected from the group consisting of an organic carbonate, an epoxide, a lactone, a hydroxyaliphatic carboxylic acid, and combinations thereof. 1. A lubricating oil composition comprising:{'sup': '2', '(a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. in a range of about 2 to about 50 mm/s;'}(b) a hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant;(c) a borated hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant; and(d) a hydrocarbyl succinimide post-treated with a post-treating agent selected from the group consisting of an organic carbonate, an epoxide, a lactone, a hydroxyaliphatic carboxylic acid, and combinations thereof.2. The lubricating oil composition of claim 1 , wherein the major amount of the oil of lubricating viscosity is greater than 50 wt. % claim 1 , based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition.3. The lubricating oil composition of claim 1 , wherein the hydrocarbyl group of the hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant contains from about 12 to about 350 carbon atoms.4. The lubricating oil composition of claim 1 , wherein the hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant is a polyalkenyl succinimide.5. The lubricating oil composition of claim 4 , wherein the polyalkenyl succinimide is a polyisobutenyl bis-succinimide.6. The lubricating oil composition of claim 1 , wherein the polyisobutenyl bis-succinimide is derived from a polyisobutylene group having a number average molecular weight of about 700 to about 2 claim 1 ,500.7.
