A surface treatment method for a metal material is provided which includes applying diluted sulfuric acid to a surface of the metal material that is composed primarily of iron, performing a heat treatment on the metal material in the presence of at least one of CO, C02 and organic gas under nitriding conditions under which a nitrided layer is formed in a superficial layer of the metal material after the application of the diluted sulfuric acid to form a carbon film which includes at least one of carbon nanocoils, carbon nanotubes and carbon nanofilaments on a surface of the nitrided layer of the metal material.

When cold strip steel is annealed, diffusion welds, so-called stickers, frequently form on the strip's surface. In order to avoid these, the cold strip, above 600.degree.C (holding time) is coated by oxidation with a thin surface film which prevents sticking. Below 600.degree.C, during the cooling phase, this surface film is removed by reduction. In the case where a protective gas comprising hydrogen is used in an amount of greater than 5%, with the remainder being nitrogen, carbon dioxide is preferably added as an oxidizing agent. The process is controlled via a defined oxygen partial pressure. The reduction is performed via the hydrogen.

PURPOSE: A ferrule protection ring for partial heat treatment is provided to improve work efficiency with securing the safety of production by removing harmful elements and simplifying a partial heat treatment process. CONSTITUTION: A ferrule protection ring for partial heat treatment comprises a ferrule fixing mount(10) and a ferrule outer fixing ring(20). The ferrule fixing mount exposes the part(111) of a fitting tube ferrule(110) to be thermally treated. The ferrule inside fixing portion(11) of the ferrule fixing mount is fitted inside a ferrule. The ferrule outer fixing ring partially exposes the part of a fitting tube ferrule to be thermally treated. The ferrule outside fixing portion(21) of the ferrule outer fixing ring is fitted outside the ferrule. The ferrule fixing mount and the ferrule outer fixing ring are respectively press-fitted inside and outside the ferrule.

The Al coating is pref. 30-300 mu thick, shot-blasted with rounded particles, esp. of Al with mean dia. 1mm, and heat-treated 2 hours at 450 degrees C. This method prevents the reaction of the steel with uranium hexafluoride utilised in isotope sepn.; this reaction produces solid, non-adherent fluorides which interfere with the appts. and cause loss of uranium in addn. to steel corrosion.
