A rope or yarn 4 comprises a plurality of fibre strands 1. Each strand is formed by twisting a tow 2, the tow comprising a plurality of fibres 1 of a non-polymeric, non-metallic and high modulus (Youngs of greater than 20 GPa) material, such as carbon, boron, glass, ceramic or quartz fibre. The tow is twisted with a first twist density to form each of the fibre strands 3, and the strands are twisted with a second twist density to form the rope 4. Each fibre strand has a helical angle with respect to the elongate axis of the fibre rope of at least about 15 degrees. The first and second twists may be executed simultaneously, each have a density of more than 25 turns per meter, be helical and in opposite directions to each other. A single rope may be combined with a matrix material to form a rod. Ropes may be knitted or woven into a fabric and may be used to from a composite material. Resin for a composite may be added after formation of the rope. For use in aircraft or vehicles.

Crimped hollow fibers for fluid separations, bundles containing the hollow fibers, and apparatus and process for separating fluids

Номер: GB0002009034A
Принадлежит:

Hollow, semi-permeable fibers which are intended for use in fluid separations have crimps with amplitudes up to 50% of the external diameter of the fiber and an average crimp period of less than 5 cms. The fibers are sufficiently rigid to retain its crimp form during fluid separation. Preferred fibers have an outside diameter of 150-800 microns, a wall thickness of 50-200 microns and a crimp amplitude of 15-250 microns. The tensile modulus is at least 40 kg/mm<2>. The relatively low amplitude crimps enable good fluid dispersion through a bundle comprising substantially parallelly-oriented hollow fibers such that shell-side (i.e., the exterior sides of the hollow fibers) feed of the fluid mixture to be treated can be attractive, even when the flow of the feed is predominantly axial to the hollow fibers. Shell-side feed of the fluid mixture to be treated is often particularly advantageous since the fluid mixture can frequently be recovered from the fluid separation with a relatively low pressure ...

The invention provides a method for making fur bearing strands from hides of fur bearing animals and a yarn from such strands suitable for producing a fur garment. The yarn has low stretch characteristics by virtue of treatment of the hide portions used to make it. Strands are made from hide portions joined side by side at abutting longitudinal edges and slit transversely of the joined portion. A yarn is made from the strands, which may be joined end to end, by longitudinally twisting them so that the fur is substantially about the exterior thereof.

SLIVERS CONTAINING CELLULOSE ACETATE FOR SPUN YARNS

Номер: US20210123166A1
Принадлежит: EASTMAN CHEMICAL COMPANY

Sliver containing cellulose acetate staple fibres is obtained that exhibits good fibre to fibre cohesion energy and can be successfully drawn and made into spun yarns. Such slivers can be made of cellulose acetate staple fibres that have of round shape, a denier of less than 3.0, a crimp frequency per inch (CPI) from 5 to 30, a good fibre to fibre coefficient of friction and have a low static charge. The textile fabrics made from spun yarns have plant-based renewable resources by containing the cellulose acetate staple fibres, and can exhibit a thermoplastic behaviour to impart better dimensional stability to a textile fabric. The low denier of the cellulose acetate fibres can impart a feel similar to that of cotton, yet can be successfully processed through carding machines to form cohesive slivers and retain their integrity throughout the drawing process, allowing them to be formed into spun yarns. 1. METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF MAN-MADE TEXTILE YARNS FROM WOOD FIBERS

Номер: US20180127898A1
Принадлежит:

We have developed an environmentally-friendly new process for producing textile yarns. The process involves chemical modification of cellulose with subsequent dissolution of the chemically modified cellulose with chitosan or other amine group-containing compounds which yields a highly viscous gel. The chemical modification of cellulose employs a known process of periodate oxidation which we have modified to obtain fibers with a low degree of aldehyde groups (˜2 mmol/g cellulose) that still remain insoluble in water. After washing, the chemically modified fibers can be cross-linked with chitosan or other amine group-containing compounds to produce the viscous gel. The viscous gel can then be extruded through a syringe nozzle in the form of textile yarns. 1. A method of generating a textile yarn comprising:subjecting a quantity of wood pulp to periodate oxidation;recovering dialdehyde cellulose;dissolving the dialdehyde cellulose in sodium hydroxide;adding an amine-containing compound to the dissolved dialdehyde cellulose;recovering a cellulose gel;filtering the cellulose gel;extruding the filtered cellulose gel into yarn under acidic conditions; andwashing the yarn.2.
