In forming a woven carpet a sheet of plastics material is slit into a plurality of strips which are then woven into the backing of the carpet to form the set of warp threads. The sheet is tensioned after being slit into strips and before being passed to the heald frame of a loom. Tensioning is done by three rollers braked or biased together, the strips being fed over the first roller under the second roller and over the third roller, the second roller being braked and also biased downwardly to tension the strips. The strips are not separated to their required spacing until after they have passed through the tensioning means.

The narrow sheets (11,12) are dipped and treated after which they are positioned in loom let off rolls (17,18) adjacent a loom (26) where they are joined to form a wide fabric (10) having a width greater than the width of either of the narrow sheets (11,12). The warp cords (19,20) from the narrow sheets (11,12) are guided from the let off rolls (19,20) into the loom (26) and during the process the narrow sheets (11,12) may be run through a cord separating apparatus (29) to separate the warp cords (19,20). The warp cords (19,20) may be woven in the loom (26) with a dipped and treated weft cord (31) to provide a wide reinforcing sheet (10) with a heavy woven construction having a width greater than the width of any one of the narrow sheets (11,12).

1. Un brazo-soporte central perfeccionado para carretillas elevadoras de transporte, provisto de lementos de apoyo (31,32) sobre los que descansan los discos contiguos (81) del plegador de urdimbre, y una garra (6) que coge el tubo del plegador (8) o bien sus discos de rodadura, caracterizado en que la garra (6) está formada como gancho de apoyo inferior del tubo dle plegador (8), estando fija con respecto a los semi-cojinetes (9) de la máquina tejedora que alojan al tubo plegador (8), y desplazable con respecto a las demás piezas (3, 4) del brazo soporte central (2) en sentido perpendicular de la carretilla de elevación y transporte. 2. Un brazo-soporte central, según la reivindicación 1, caracterizado en que la garra (6) que sirve de sostén a la parte inferior del tubo del plegador (8) tiene un saliente (61) debajo, que puede encajar en una escotadura existente en la prolongación de los semi-cojinetes (9) de la máquina tejedora. 3. Un brazo-soporte central, según la reivindicación 1 y 2,caracterizado en que la garra (6) que sirve de sostén a la parte inferior del tubo del plegador (8) tiene un saliente (61) debajo, que puede encajar en una escotadura existente en la prolongación de los semi-cojinetes (9) de la máquina tejedora. 4. Un brazo-soporte central, según la reivindicación 1 a 3, caracterizado en que la garra (6) está sujeto en una parte saliente (51) del carro (5) en diferentes posiciones, que corresponden a los diámetros de los respectivos discos del plegador (81). 5. Un brazo-soporte central, según la reivindicación 1 a 4, caracterizado en que el husillo de ajuste (7) de debajo del carro (5) está situado entre las patas de la guía (4) que está unida rígidamente conel brazo-soporte central (2). 6.
