The aggregate is discharged into an annular chamber (70) and mixed with contaminated soil that has been processed to be suitable for use in asphalt. As the soil is heated, the contaminants are vaporized and drawn into the drum chamber (36) where they are oxidized by high temperature. Secondary aggregate in the form of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) and/or virgin aggregate are also added to the annular chamber (70) and mixed with the aggregate and soil to form asphalt and to cool the aggregate/soil mixture.

In the prodn. of a mixture of a mineral component, the particle size of which ranges from granular to fine powder size, with a bituminous binder, in which the mineral material is preheated prior to the addition of the bituminous binder, the heating step is carried out in two parallel operations: The corase fraction is heated in a aerated rotary shaft furnace, whilst the powder fraction is heated in an enclosed furnace. Prior to the addition of the binder, the two fractions are mixed together again. The separate heating of the dust eliminates the dust nuisance which is created by the dust laden flue gases from the oil fired rotary shaft furnace. Also, heating of the coarse fraction separately is thermally more efficient. Used for prepn. of e.g. road surfacings and bituminous concrete.

Recyclable asphalt material is processed within a drum for delivery in a heated mass containing aggregate-sized pieces for reuse. The drum is mounted for rotation about a longitudinal axis and a mounting arrangement compensates for thermal expansion and contraction of the drum while enabling the desired rotation. The mounting arrangement includes at least one mounting ring placed coaxial with the longitudinal axis and spaced from the drum by a radial spacing. Support rollers support the mounting ring for rotation about the longitudinal axis, and links couple the drum with the mounting ring. Each link has one end coupled pivotally to the drum, and another end coupled pivotally to the mounting ring. The ends of the link are offset circumferentially relative to one another such that the link is movable to vary the radial spacing in response to thermal expansion and contraction of the drum relative to the mounting ring.

An asphalt paving mixtures suitable for roadway paving is formulated by mixing very soft penetration asphalt having a penetration value on the order of 300 to 400 and a melt point of 110° F. with recycled or reclaimed asphalt roofing shingles and/or recycled or reclaimed asphalt pavement granule material having a much higher melt point and a much lower penetration value. 10% to 30% of the recycled or reclaimed asphalt material in the final mixture will bring the formulation into compliance with PG grade paving asphalt. The asphalt paving mixture may utilize recycled asphalt shingle granules of approximately 50 mesh in size and preferably between 10 and 50 mesh while a powder may be utilized that is sized below 50 mesh.

In the hot process, all of the components are ground except for the course surface granules. In the cold process, a type of grind is formed that is the same as the hot process except it is a dry powder. A horizontal mixer ( 20 ) can be used either hot or cold. The hot process and cold process can be run in combination with one another or independently. Provided herein are roadways containing polyurethane materials. A roadway includes a base layer of a compacted in situ material and/or a wear layer disposed on the base layer. One or both of these layers may include the polyurethane material to bind other components in the layers and to form more robust and durable roadway structures capable of withstanding operating loads of the roadway. In some embodiments, the polyurethane material is added to the wear layer by mixing in situ soil and/or foreign aggregate with polyurethane material or by dispensing the polyurethane material over the existing partially formed wear layer. The base layer may or may not include a polyurethane material. The type, concentration, distribution, and processing of the polyurethane material in the wear layer may be the same or different than that in the base layer.

An asphalt roofing material recycling system and method is used to recycle new and used asphalt materials, such as asphalt shingles, rolled roofing and tar paper that may include granules, fibers or other particles. The recycling modifier improves the physical properties of recycled ASCON, while the temperature-adjusting additive adjusts the temperatures for producing and constructing recycled ASCON. The present invention may provide economic, social and technological conveniences by improving the overall recycling technology of waste ASCON. A process and device for treating bituminous mix are described, which permit recycling of old mix which is obtained in the breaking of existing asphalt covers and repair work. The old mix, which can be used in a reprocessing fraction of up to 80 %, is heated in a separate drying drum, through which a hot gas flows in cocurrent with the old mix. Hydrocarbons and bituminous particles present in the off-gas leaving the drying drum are burned before dust is removed from the off-gas via a textile filter. The old mix reprocessed in this way is treated batchwise in a mixer with aggregates which have been dressed in the conventional manner by means of a drying drum operated in countercurrent. In addition, bituminous materials are added in the mixer corresponding to the particular formulation.

Waste ascon, aggregate, asphalt, and a modifier are put into the hopper. The receiver accommodates the aggregate, asphalt, and modifier discharged from the hoppers. The feed unit is installed in the receiver to transfer and agitate the aggregate, asphalt, and modifier. The heating unit is mounted outside the receiver to mix the waste ascon, aggregate, asphalt, and modifier at high temperature. The chute discharges the ascon melt mixed by the feed and heating units.
