After a 180 degree shift (Figure 5) the chambers formed between the rotors and annulus will comprise one axial part between rotor 10 and annulus 16 which is at maximum volume whilst the adjacent and communicating part between rotor 12 and the annulus will be at minimum volume and hence the pump will be in zero output condition. POWER TRANSMISSION ABSTRACT A variable displacement vane pump is provided in which a pair of rings having oval-shaped inner contours are rotatably mounted in side-by-side relationship. The rings are adapted for relative rotation to each other from a first position wherein the inner contours are in register with each other and a moved position wherein the inner con-tours are out-of-register, and means are provided for effecting the relative rotation, which include a gear sys-tem operatively connected to the rings. A rotor member is mounted for rotation within the rings and is formed with a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses which extend the entire axial length of the rotor. Each of the recesses carries a pair of vanes in abutting relationship. The vanes are mounted for radial movement in the recesses and are adapted for slidable contact with the inner contours of the rings. The vanes form two side-by-side rows of vanes with each row in tracking relationship with the inner contours or the rings. With the inner contours rotated to the first position, rotation of the vanes will pump a maximum volume of fluid through the pump and with the inner contours rotated to the moved position, the vanes will pump a reduced volume of fluid through the pump.

The invention provides a variable output pump of the gerotor type in which one rotor (16) meshes in two side by side annulii (14, 12) which can be aligned for maximum output and turned in opposite directions to be non-aligned for minimum output. The movement is effected by a gear train (20, 24, 29) displaced by a rack (40) which is hydraulically operated by pump pressure. Hence high pressure displaces the rack to result in lower output against lower pressure. A variation is described in which a control spool diverts fluid to either side of the piston according to need and this is displaced in one direction by the derived fluid pressure and in the other direction additionally by spring pressure transferred from the piston position by a lever system. This can give desired pump output/speed results at reduced power consumption.

The present invention provides a pump apparatus capable of preventing or reducing deterioration of efficiency of a pump. The pump apparatus includes a venturi portion provided on the way along a discharge passage. The venturi portion includes a small diameter portion having a smaller inner diameter than an inner diameter of the discharge passage from a discharge port to the venturi portion and an inner diameter gradually-increasing portion formed in such a manner that an inner diameter thereof gradually increases from the small diameter portion toward a downstream side of the discharge passage. The pump apparatus further includes a control valve configured to receive introduction of hydraulic fluid on an upstream side of the venturi portion and hydraulic fluid in the venturi portion. The control valve is configured to control a flow amount of hydraulic fluid to be supplied into an automatic transmission by switching a flow passage of the hydraulic fluid based on a differential pressure between a pressure on the upstream side of the venturi portion and a pressure in the venturi portion (). 1. As the rotor revolves, each element remains in contact with the cam surface and moves over a stroke length between a first position adjacent the radial innermost portion of the respective aperture and a second position adjacent the radial outermost portion of the respective aperture. The pump body includes a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet respectively for transferring fluid to and fluid from the fluid chambers as the rotor rotates. Preferably, the pump also includes an actuator for rotating the cam ring about its centre of symmetry between a first angular position and a second angular position for varying the stroke length of the pump elements.
