A metal seal fitting for use on a pipe or pipeline includes at least one metal seal ring having a C-profile which houses a spring and is arranged concentric to, and outside of, a tap diameter of the access connection. The seal ring is double-curved so that it conforms to a pipe-facing side of the fitting. A surface of the pipe is prepared to receive the seal and, as the fitting is being secured to the pipe, the seal is activated and spring-energized. In its final sealing state, the seal is not compressed passed its deformation point and maintains its spring-back capability. After the fitting is removed from the pipe, the seal may be re-used. The metal seal fitting is suited for applications requiring a high integrity seal and can be used in high pressure, high temperature, and highly corrosive environments which are not well-suited for elastomeric seals. 1. A pressure retained gasket seal provides enhanced resistance to hydraulic unloading by including a notch formed in a rear face of the gasket groove, thereby reducing intrusion of process fluid behind the gasket and improving hydraulic retention of the gasket seal. Embodiments increase the process fluid pressure limit of the gasket seal by a factor of two or three compared to gasket seals of the prior art. In embodiments, the gasket groove has a dovetail cross-section, thereby increasing resistance to process fluid pressure by requiring compression of the gasket before it can be dislodged from the groove. Embodiments form the gasket from flexible graphite, which can be initially shaped as an annulus and then forced by an applied load into the gasket groove in conformance with the notch. Embodiments include compressing the graphite to within 50% or even 70% of its maximum density during installation thereof.

An apparatus comprising:a housing coupled to a structure in an exhaust system of an aircraft, wherein the structure is positioned relative to a surface within the exhaust system such that a gap is present between the surface and the structure;a seal having an end positioned in contact with the surface to reduce a flow of an exhaust through the gap and coupled to the housing such that at least a portion of the seal extends within the housing; andan energy storing device coupled to the housing and engaged with the seal such that the energy storing device allows the seal to translate in a first direction relative to the housing when the gap increases and in a second direction opposite the first direction relative to the housing when the gap decreases such that the seal continues to reduce the flow of the exhaust through the gap as the gap changes in size.2. In one example, a hygienic fitting assembly is disclosed. The hygienic fitting assembly includes a first fitting member defining an exterior opening, an interior opening, and a passage extending therebetween. The hygienic fitting assembly further includes a second fitting member receivable by the first fitting member with the first and second fitting members configured for removable mechanical attachment with one another along an interface region within the passage. The hygienic fitting assembly further includes a seal formed from a compression controlled and self-lubricating material. The seal is configured to receive an annular feature of one of the first or second fitting members and define sanitary fitting connection therebetween. The sanitary fitting connection is operable to prevent fluid escape toward the interface region during flow of a product between the first and second fitting members. 1. A hygienic fitting assembly , comprising:a first fitting member defining an exterior opening, an interior opening, and a passage extending therebetween, the passage having a first portion at the exterior opening and a second portion at the interior opening;a second fitting member receivable into the first portion of the passage and defining a duct configured for alignment with the second portion of the passage, the first and second fitting members configured for removable mechanical attachment with one another along an interface region within the passage; anda seal formed from a compression controlled and self-lubricating material and configured to receive an annular feature of one of the first or second fitting members and define sanitary fitting connection therebetween, the sanitary fitting connection operable to prevent fluid escape toward the interface region during flow of a product from the duct and into the second portion of the passage.2.
