Systems and methods are provided that integrate a modular load management solution within a general control architecture. One or more load modules deployed within a controller act as interlocks to energy consuming field devices or machines fed by an energy distribution system within a facility. One or more feeder modules deployed within the controller collect energy supply data from an energy source or feeder on the energy distribution system. The load and feeder modules publish their energy demand and supply data to a virtual energy bus, which facilitates exchange of energy data between the load and feeder modules. The load modules, feeder modules, and virtual energy bus generate multiple views of the facility's overall energy supply and demand status based on the energy data shared between the components, and perform automated load management for the energy distribution system based on the collected data.

An approach is provided where a smart socket receives a request over a power line and generates a request based on the received request. The second request is transmitted over a power cord connecting the smart power socket to a device. A response is received from the device and a power setting is identified therefrom. The smart socket regulates electrical current flowing from the smart power socket to the device using the identified setting. In a related approach, the device receives a power down request over a power cord from a smart power socket. The device determines whether power is still needed at the device in order to perform one or more device operations. The device then returns a response to the smart power socket, with the response indicating whether power is still needed at the device.

In the event load demand is higher than the current power generation, load shedding must be initiated in order to correct the imbalance and maintain system stability and operability. This balance is reflected in the frequency response of the power system, i.e. how the frequency of the generated power aligns with a target frequency reflecting a stable system, e.g. 60 Hz. For example, when load demand becomes greater than power generation, the frequency of the generated power will drop, unless and until either the power generation increase accordingly, or the excess load is removed.Load shedding is the removal ...

A prediction value calculator calculates a prediction value of an electricity fee based on the amount of electric power supplied from a commercial electric power source to electric equipment within an electricity fee calculation period. A selector selects, as a first-stage control, either one control of an electric power saving control for the electric equipment and a charge-discharge control in which the electric power supplied from the commercial electric power source is stored in a storage battery in a first time slot and the electric power stored in the storage battery is supplied to the electric equipment in a second time slot in which the unit cost of the electric power supplied from the commercial electric power source is greater than that in the first time slot. A controller executes the first-stage control selected by the selector when the prediction value calculated by the prediction value calculator is greater than a targeted value of the electricity fee.
