In the present invention, a fingerprint recognition module identifies, through a driver IC, an impedance value of an ultrasonic wave reflected from a finger and identifies a fake fingerprint on the basis of a changed impedance value, and determines a fake fingerprint by measuring an impedance value in an ultrasonic wave which is emitted from the fingerprint recognition module, collides with a fake fingerprint, and is then reflected therefrom. Therefore, the present invention can more accurately recognize a fingerprint than a conventional method of recognizing a fingerprint by distinguishing between x, y, z vectors thereof and, through accurate identification of a fake fingerprint, can prevent a harmful consequence which may be caused by an authentication of the fake fingerprint.

Multi-resolution fingerprint sensors and methods of using the same are provided. The multi-resolution fingerprint sensors each include a portion of the imaging area or region of the sensor that provides higher imaging resolution than the remaining imaging area of the sensor. The area of higher resolution is useful for anti-spoofing purposes, but because only a portion of the sensor is higher-resolution, advantageously it will not impact hardware costs nearly as much as a sensor that was higher resolution over its entire imaging area. Furthermore, the higher resolution area can be down-sampled so there would be no impact on the standard matcher and image processing software stack, which expects a uniform resolution for the entire image acquired.

A difference in a width of ridges of the fingerprint pattern in the first image compared to the width of ridges of the fingerprint pattern in the second image is quantified. Based on the quantification of the difference, a probability whether the finger is a real finger is determined.

The sensor circuit supplies image drive signals to the image sensor and detects image signals in response to the drive signals. The sensor circuit supplies rate drive signals to the rate sensor and detects rate signals in response to the rate drive signals. The sensor circuit further coordinates the image signals and the rate signals to provide a fingerprint image. The image sensor may be configured as an image pickup plate and multiple image drive plates formed on a substrate, such as a flexible printed circuit board or other flexible substrate which may conform to the shape of the finger.

A distinguishing feature of the sensor of the invention is that the entire sensor along with a light source has a monolithic structure, and that the diaphragm arrays are located in planes different from the plane of the microlens array and provide the most efficient protection against overlapping of images produced by neighboring microlenses.
