At yet another particular frequency, the at least one monopole in combination with various portions of the magnetic loop resonate and radiate an electric field at a second frequency band. The shape of the magnetic loop can be tuned to increase the radiation efficiency at particular frequency bands and enable the multi-band operation of antenna embodiments.

An internal dual band antenna meant for small radio devices. In one embodiment, the antenna contains two radiators and a parasite element, which is shared between them. The parasite element is implemented on three sides of the antenna module, which are perpendicular to the side where the two radiators are implemented. The short-circuit conductor of the parasite element extends close to the supply point/points of the antenna on the circuit board of the radio device and is connected to the ground plane of the radio device. The antenna structure is dimensioned such that the two resonance frequencies on both functional bands are at a lower frequency than the resonance frequencies of the actual radiators. Accordingly, both the lower and upper frequency band is widened. The shape of the parasite element does not weaken the adaptation of the antenna in either functional band.

The antenna connections are through the battery's connections to the wireless device. The antenna can be located at the back surface of the battery or the rear surface of a wireless phone, facing away from the user. An RF shielding device can be embedded into the battery and configured in relation to the antenna such that the RF field intensity and the consequent specific absorption rate for the user is lowered while the outgoing signals of the wireless device remain fully adequate for the function of the wireless device. This feature is preserved for a multi-band operation because a digital phase shifter is used between two radiating antennae. An external case is used as a complement to the wireless phone.

An antenna includes a grounding portion with a grounding feed point, a radiating plane and a coaxial cable. The grounding portion extends in a lengthwise direction defining two ends opposite to each other in the lengthwise direction. The radiating plane extends upwardly from a lengthwise edge of the grounding portion. The radiating plane includes a first arm extending from one end of the lengthwise edge and a second arm extending from the opposite end. The first arm defines a signal feed point and a first radiating portion while the second arm is defined as a second radiating portion. The coaxial cable includes a core linking to the signal feed point and a shielding layer linking to the grounding feed point. The second arm surrounds the first arm in the radiating plane.

A ground plane in the handheld electronic device may serve as ground for one or more of the antennas. The ground plane and bezel may define an opening. A rectangular slot antenna or other suitable slot antenna may be formed from or within the opening. One or more antenna resonating elements may be formed above the slot. An electrical switch that bridges the slot may be used to modify the perimeter of the slot so as to tune the communications bands of the handheld electronic device.

A mobile communication device which comprises a first member with first surface having a first curvature and a second surface having a second curvature; a second member having first surface with a third curvature and a second surface with a fourth curvature. A hinge pivotally connects the first and second members with one another such that they are movable between opened and closed configurations. The first and the second curvatures of the first member combine with one another and form a combined average curvature for the first member and the third and the fourth curvatures of the second member combine with one another and form a combined average curvature for the second member. The combined average curvature for the first member and the combined average curvature for the second member combine with one another to form a combined average curvature for the communication device which is 8 feet or less.
