The remaining lamps 11 have filaments 19 in parallel with shunts 22 of aluminium wire which maintain a closed circuit if the filament fails. The sockets 14 and the bases of the lamps 13 have complementary flats to prevent the insertion of shunted lamps 11 into the sockets 14, and the sockets 12 have contact openings (29) of smaller diameter than the contact openings (27) of the sockets 14 to prevent the insertion of unshunted lamps 13 therein. The lamps 13 may be coloured green at 31 to distinguish them from the lamps 11.

Après l'insertion, la patte tournée vers l'extérieur (212) se redresse de façon à se coincer dans le trou de verrouillage (113) de la base, verrouillant ainsi la tige de lampe (2) et la base (1). Ainsi, que ce soit pour l'emballage, le transport ou le stockage, la tige de lampe et la base peuvent être séparées afin de réduire l'espace nécessaire au transport et au stockage. The male ends can have prongs and the female ends can have voids. The prongs can be inserted into the voids to electrically connect the power distribution subsystems of neighboring tree trunk sections. In some embodiments, the prongs and voids are designed so that the prongs of one power distribution subsystem can engage the voids of another power distribution subsystem without the need to rotationally align the tree trunk sections.

A ceramic shell (1) houses a metallic linkage sleeve (2) which is provided with two tapped holes to accommodate fixing screws (4,5). One of the screws (4) clamps the lamp terminal pin socket jacks (3), which are introduced into one end of the sleeve, and the other clamps the bare-end of the connector wire (6). The tightening of the screws also anchors the sleeve within the ceramic shell. Once the socket jacks and wires have been inserted and correctly positioned by inserting a pair of lamp terminals, the screws are tightened and a soft, heat-resistant resin is injected into the wire-side of the shell, filling the space between sheath and shell. Once set, the resin holds the assembly together but restrains same flexibility to allow relief of any stresses set up.
