The test signals can be generated (48 and 52) from either or both of the central office of the telecommunications system and the premises of the customer switching system, but in the preferred embodiment, all such transmissions are controlled from the customer switching system. The measurement results are collected on an ongoing basis to obtain information on the VOIP network's voice call quality. In embodiments, different bands of SELT signal data are analyzed separately using a TDR method, to effectively detect any potential bridgetaps. In the message transmission method between packet processing processor of ISDN exchange comprising a PLCP(Packet Layer Control Processor) for verifying a control packet, arranging a logic channel and processing an upper control of a packet switching, a PHM(Packet Handling Module) for controlling a link layer, converting frame-packet and packet switching, a duplicated PBLA(Packet Bus Local Arbiter) for assigning a communication sequence of the PHM, and a duplicated PBMA(Packet Bus Main Arbiter) for assigning the communication sequence of the packet layer control processor(PLCP) and the packet processing module local packet bus, the method comprises the steps of: classifying physically the PLCP and the PHMs, discriminating logically user processes and assigning addresses; controlling a combination message according to a priority disconnectivity, connectivity, multiplication, broadcasting communication mode, error control and flow control functions by a message characteristics; providing a packet inside message transfer service to the user process; and transferring a standard packet inside message between packet processors.

The object of a traffic simulation device is to set up and clear down calls of the most widely differing traffic types with the aid of subscriber simulations and to check the response of the telephone system in the process. During each connection procedure, pauses are inserted at times normally dependent on the response of the subscriber in a connection set-up of this type and at the end of each connection procedure. At least for a specific number of these pauses, their duration based on a minimum pause time is to correspond to a random distribution within a predefined fluctuation range. Random configurations are thus generated in the checked switching system and an approximation to the conditions arising in normal operation is thereby achieved. To determine the pauses which change in the individual switching procedures, the initial value of a random generator is read by the control computer unit and the duration of the individual pauses which is to be specified in each case is inferred from this value.

The central server establishes an account for the user at each of the telecommunications carriers in the user's database. The routing of calls from one network (100) to another network (170) may be accomplished by tracking the call completion history over each trunk group (174 1-174 2) connecting the networks. From a knowledge of the call completion history for each route, a Completion Rate Factor (CRF), representing the ratio of completed calls to all calls attempted is computed. The route having the CRF representing the highest number of completions is then selected. Typically, the process is dynamic, so that if the selected route no longer has the highest number of completions, then the route previously found to have the highest number of call completions is selected. The concept of completion rate factor routing can be extended to multiple carriers to yield a carrier completion rate feature routing technique. Routing may also be completed in accordance with network congestion to route advance a call.

After the call is bridged, and in response to a specified condition, the gateway (16) causes the call to be forwarded to a telephone line (34) interconnected with the telephone network. The specified condition may include an end-user input, or a detection by the gateway or the computing device that the quality of the bridged call has fallen below an acceptable standard, arising typically from congestion or delays on the data network (10). This allows the end-user to maintain a high quality call connection.

The web server also transfers a test instruction to test equipment. The test equipment applies the test to the call connection and returns the test result to the web server. The web server displays the test result to the user through the web browser.

Client user interface applications run on the computer workstations, allowing clients to edit routing rules for the router, which has a list of routing rules keyed to users and workstations of the customer premises system. The editing rules are kept by the router in portions dedicated to individual users. With this system a user can edit at a workstation on the LAN his\her own routing rules, and transmit the edits to the client-server router where the rules will be followed to route calls for that user and protocol.
