A trusted system component associated with an application of a plurality of applications in a logically partitioned data processing system sets a destination address of a received packet to an address of a security appliance shared by the plurality of applications. The trusted system component determines whether the response indicates permitting the received packet to proceed to the intended recipient. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, a managed network device assigns to itself an IP address, in absence of a DHCP service, in a link local address space within a wireless network. The system further responds to a network frame received from another device based on the assigned IP address in the link local address space. The network frame can be a network traffic frame, a control path frame, and/or a management frame. The control path frame comprises a source IP address and a destination IP address that correspond to internal IP addresses in the link local address space that are self-assigned by managed network devices. The management frame comprises the self-assigned internal IP address for the managed network device, and provides for management of managed network devices in the wireless network through a single IP address when a virtual controller is configured for the wireless network.

In a method of communicating between a central server and a plurality of assets over a cellular network in communication with the central server, each asset has a transceiver arranged to communicate with the cellular network which includes an integrated circuit card identifier (ICCID) and an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI). The ICCID of each transceiver is unique, but the IMSI of multiple transceivers are identical to one another. Communication between the assets and the central server is initiated by the asset transceivers and is rescheduled automatically in the event that another transceiver with the same IMSI is already communicating with the central server. Communication from the server to the asset transceivers involves queuing data until the transceiver of the intended recipient transceiver contacts the central server. 1. The apparatus generally include a processing system configured to generate a frame having a request element for a request to switch to an AID for communicating with a wireless device, a transmit interface configured to output the frame for transmission to the wireless device, and a receive interface configured to receive a frame having a response element indicating acceptance or rejection of the request to switch to the AID. 1. An apparatus for wireless communications , comprising:a processing system configured to generate a frame having a request element for a request to switch to an association identification (AID) for communicating with a wireless device;a transmit interface configured to output the frame for transmission to the wireless device; anda receive interface configured to receive a frame having a response element indicating acceptance or rejection of the request to switch to the AID.2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processing system is configured to switch to using the AID only if the response element indicates acceptance of the request to switch to the AID.3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein:the response element indicates rejection of the request to switch to the AID and indicates a time for the apparatus to send a subsequent request element for a request to switch to an AID; andthe processing system is configured to refrain from generating the subsequent request element based on the indicated time.4. A computer-implemented method for assigning group subscriber numbers in a group messaging service , the method comprising:configuring at least one central processing unit (CPU) of the group messaging service to:each time a user defines or joins a new group of users, assign a hash number to the group, said hash number comprising a combination of the user's subscriber number and one of a predetermined fixed pool of group subscriber numbers together with similar hash numbers of other members of the group and in association with an internal unique system group number for this group.2. The computer-implemented method according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one CPU is configured to:maintain the pool of group subscriber numbers, wherein the total of group subscriber numbers in the pool is equal to the total number of groups to which a user is permitted membership.3.
