Bei mehreren Teilnehmerkennungen pro Mobilstation wird damit der Signalisierungsaufwand beim Rufen und der Batterieverbrauch der Mobilstation verringert.

Zum Beispiel kann der physische V2V-Kanal durch Vergrößern der Subträgerbeabstandung von veralteten LTE-Kanälen (z.B. von 15 Kilohertz (kHz) auf 30 kHz) um einen bestimmten Faktor erzeugt werden. Außerdem kann eine Symboldauer und eine Größe der schnellen Fouriertransformation (FFT) für den physischen V2V-Kanal jeweils um denselben Faktor verringert werden. Dadurch kann Implementierung des physischen V2V-Kanals ohne signifikante Modifikationen anderer Aspekte des LTE-Standards ermöglicht werden.

Im Stand der Technik existiert das Problem, dass das Umschalten eines Verbindungsabschnittes einer zwischen zwei Teilnehmern eines FMC Netzes (Fixed mobile Conversion) bestehenden Verbindung (Hand Off) auf ein anderes Übertragungsprotokoll nicht vom Netz unterstützt wird. Die Erfindung löst diese Problematik, indem ein von einem Dual Mode Endgerät (DMH) ausgehender Umschaltwunsch das Netz dazu veranlasst, den letzten Verbindungsabschnitt zu diesem Endgerät auf ein anderes Übertragungsprotokoll umzuschalten und dabei den verbleibenden Verbindungsabschnitt zum anderen Teilnehmer unberührt zu lassen.

A technique for communication with a local area network (LAN) via a wireless connection determines whether a first short-range, high-speed, wireless communication path is available and connects to the LAN using a longer range, lower speed wireless communication path if the short-range, high-speed wireless communication path is not available. The low-range, high-speed wireless communication path is a wireless communication path is a wireless LAN connection such as an IEE 802.11-compliant wireless LAN and the long-range, low-sped wireless communication mode is a cellular CDMA-type connection. Determining whether the first IEEE 802.11 mode is available can be done by detecting a beacon signal, or transmitting a probe request message and detecting a probe response message in response to the probe request, indicating the presence or availability of the short-range, high-speed wireless communication path. Alternatively, the availability of short-range, high-speed wireless communication path can be detected by simply detecting activity on it. 1. A subscriber unit comprising:a first transceiver configured to communicate with a first wireless network via a plurality of assigned physical layer channels;a second transceiver configured to communicate with a second wireless network; anda processor coupled to the first transceiver and the second transceiver, and configured to maintain a communication session, above a physical layer, with the first wireless network in the absence of the plurality of assigned physical layer channels.2. The modem selectively reconfigures the arrangement of the plural sets of modem components. In a first configuration, the first set of modem components provides wireless connection service for a first SIM of the wireless device and the second set of modem components provides wireless connection service for a second SIM of the wireless device. This allows active wireless connections to be made on behalf of both SIMs simultaneously by the sets of modem components.
