Open hearth furnace
Реферат: 182,399. Miami Metals Co., (Assignees of Danforth, G. L.). Sept. 26, 1921, [Convention date]. Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-In a reversible regenerative openhearth furnace, dampers are provided at each end of the furnace in a position between the ports and the hearth for the purpose of restricting the passage between the ports and hearth at the incoming end of the furnace and directing the air stream on to the gas stream so as to obtain a short quick flame. At the outlet end the dampers are withdrawn to give free passage for the expanded waste gases. The dampers are arranged to suit the particular arrangement of gas and air ports. In the furnace shown in Figs. 1 and 2, dampers 28 having watercooled frames 29 and sliding vertically in water-cooled guides 27 are adapted to be lowered through the roof of the furnace in front of the air streams which are directed on to the gas issuing through the port 22, the inlet passage for the fuel and air to the furnace being restricted. The dampers at the opposite end of the furnace are raised. The dampers may be inclined to the side walls so as to direct the air in a more efficient manner. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the air port is arranged above the gas port 41 and a single damper 44 is provided to vary the effective area of the gas and air passage. Figs. 7 and 8 show a further modification in which the furnace walls project inwardly at 54 to direct the air streams from the passages 53 on to the gas stream from the passage 51 and port 52. The sliding watercooled damper 55 is inclined and carried in watercooled guides 56 and in its upper position is housed in a casing 58. A flange 59 upon the damper engages with a flange 60 upon the casing to prevent the passage of gases when the damper is lowered. Fig. 9 shows an arc-shaped damper 61 adapted to be rotated on the shaft 63, when it is desired to vary the area of the passage between the ports and hearth. According to a further modification, a part of the furnace roof above the gas and air ports may be hinged horizontally to act as a damper. In another modification, the dampers are pivoted on vertical axes in the side walls of the furnace adjacent to the air ports.
