In an injection moulding machine the mould halves are held between plates 29 and 35 movable along the length of a support unit 26 and the unit 26 is rotatable about the longitudinal axis of injection unit 2. Plate 29 is attached to a block 27 which slides on bars 41 and plate 35 is movable along rods 28 by means of an hydraulically operated piston and toggle mechanism, Fig. 3 (not shown), attached to a second block 31. This block may also be moved along rods 28 so that the mould halves when closed may be moved from a postion where the injection nozzle (15), Fig. 2 (not shown), is in line with the mould parting line, to a position where injection takes place along the axis of unit 26, see Fig. 4 (not reproduced). The rotation of unit 26 is achieved by the co-operation of rollers mounted on plate 23 with an annular groove in fixed plate 5, a lock (26a), Fig. 4 (not shown), being provided to hold unit 26 in any desired position. The injection unit 2 comprises a feed screw (9), Fig. 2 (not shown), movable axially by reciprocation of a piston (14) within a cylinder (6). The injection unit itself is also movable axially either manually or hydraulically, to facilitate access to the injection nozzle, and is locked in position by co-operation of couplings (18) and (21). Two injection units may be arranged coaxially to feed the mould with different materials or material of differing colours. Metallic inserts may be incorporated in the mouldings.
