In a prefabricated panel of refractory bricks comprising superimposed courses of the bricks some of which are pierced with holes, the longitudinal edges of the bricks forming the outer courses A and B are recessed to accommodate metal bonding strips 10 and metal tie bolts 12 pass through the holes with their ends secured by nuts within recesses in the bonding strips. The bricks are of varying widths and may be fired, unfired or metal-clad or metal spacer plates may be placed in the vertical and horizontal joints of the panel. The latter is provided with removable lifting means such as eye bolts 16 and a curved panel may be built up from tapered bricks (Figs. 9-15, not shown).
