To prevent centrifugal unlocking on tyre blow-out of a divisible rim comprising a detachable flange 10 retained by a split locking-ring 18, the detachable flange 10 is movable axially inwardly of the wheel rim 3 a distance which permits insertion and removal of the locking- ring 18 only by twisting the locking ring progressively about its circumferential axis. As shown, a wheel rim 3, particularly for aircraft, has an integral beadretaining flange 4 and bead seat portion 5 at one side and a frusto-conical portion 7 at the other side tapering towards said other side and merging into an annular recess 8 which is spaced axially inwardly of the rim edge by a cylindrical portion or step 9. An annular detachable bead-seating and retaining flange 10 has a radially inwardly projecting triangular-section shoulder 14 to engage in the triangular-section space bounded on one side by the rim portion 7 and on the other side by a face 22 of a triangular section split locking ring 18 which is engaged, by means of a projection 19, in the recess 8. The shoulder 14 normally abuts the locking ring on one side and is spaced from the rim portion 7 on the other to allow axially inward movement of the detachable flange 10 a distance sufficient only to permit assembly or removal of the locking-ring 18 by progressive twisting thereof. The locking-ring 18 has a cylindrical portion 20 to seat on the step 9 and may be provided with a tapped hole in each end for reception of handles to facilitate manipulation. In use, the detachable flange 10 is wedged firmly against the locking-ring at the mutually abutting sloping surfaces 16, 22, by the inflation pressure of the tyre.
