Chucks.-The body A, Fig. 1, of a chuck for drills and like tools is bored at A<2> to fit the machine spindle, and has a cross-aperture B, of the shape shown, to receive jaws C, Fig. 3, of similar shape. The jaws are adjusted by a right and left hand screw E, Fig. 5, engaging one pair of ears, and are then further tightened on the tool by a headed screw F, Fig. 6, passing through one ear and tapped into the other of the second pair. The screw E is grooved at e, and held longitudinally by a screw G, Fig. 7, screwed into the face of the chuck, and having a conical portion g<3> so that slackness may be taken up when the groove e wears. The aperture B may be extended at the point b<1> so that one or more additional tightening- screws may be used in the jaws.
