Реферат: 15,950. Pope, A. A. July 5. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to the mounting of the vehicle framing on the front or steering wheels in motor vehicles. Fig. 2 shows in front elevation the way in which the steering-wheel axle b is connected to the front transverse member of the vehicle underframing a' so as to be capable of turning about the horizontal pivot b<2> when running over uneven ground. The axle b ends in yokes or forks, in which are pivoted the short axles c<2>, arranged to be adjusted from the steering-mechanism through suitable differential linkage. According to an alternative arrangement, shown in Fig. 6, the axle b may have rings c<6> pivoted at its ends, on which the wheel hubs c<5> run on ball bearings. The steering-wheels are adjusted by shifting a sliding collar, one of which is connected by a link to the edge of each ring c<6>. In both this and the former arrangement, the axis about which the wheels are adjusted is so placed and so inclined that a slight tilt is given them as they turn, whereby side strain is more effectively resisted.
