Motor road vehicles. - The axles A, A' of the wheels are carried in boxes B, B<2>, which slide in brackets C, C<2> attached directly to the body of the vehicle. The front axle A does not rotate, but carries on its ends vertically-pivoted heads, on which the wheels are mounted, and which can be operated for steering by means of levers 6. There is no connection between the front and rear wheels, except through the body of the vehicle. Springs, which are preferably of the form shown, are interposed between the boxes B, B<2> and the body. The brackets C, C<2> are braced together, in pairs, by the axles and by plates running across the vehicle. Each of the rear axle-boxes B<2> supports rigid arms 9 and 10, on the former of which is pivoted a brake F engaging with the inner face of the chain-wheel G. The arm 10 supports toggles, for applying the brake, which are operated by a lever 12 and rod 13. Each motor M, of which there are a pair in the case shown, is supported partly by the arm G and partly by the axle A<2>, which does not rotate. When a single motor is used, it is supported partly by the axle, (which in this case rotates), and partly by a rod connecting the arm G with the corresponding one at the opposite side of the vehicle. A ring, distinct from the chain-wheel, is used for the brake to act upon. The brake may be applied either inside or outside the ring.
