[Also in Group XXIII] In a remote control manipulator for radio-active materials comprising a connecting element which carries at one end a working instrument such as a spring clip 7 or a clamp or a pipette and which has at the other end at least one member such as a trigger 26 or milled wheel for actuating the working instrument,- the handling part 2 is detachable from the connecting element. As shown two connecting elements are provided each'of which may carry a working instrument, the elements each comprising a tube 5, 6 respectively in each of which slides a rod controlling the actuation of the instrument. The ends of the tubes 5, 6 are detachably fixed in cylindrical bores 3, 4 in the handle by screws 21, 22 which draw together the sides of a vertical slit in the part 1. The sliding rod 10 which is held in inoperative position in the tube 5 by a spring 11 can be advanced to close the clip 7 by movement of a cylindrical part 15 which is slidably mounted in the bore 3. The part 15 is formed with a rack which engages a toothed pinion 16 secured to a transverse shaft which carries one or more milled wheels for actuation by the user. The handle 2 has a metal plate 24 by means of which it is secured in the vertical slit 23 in the part 1. An instrument 31 for indicating radioactive radiations is provided in the handle. The slidable rod 30 in the tube 6 is actuated by the trigger 26. In a modification a clip is hinged to the connecting part 8, the arrangement being such that rotation of the rod 10 varies the inclination of the clip relatively to the tube. In other modifications the operating instrument comprises a clamp adapted to be actuated by the pull of the sliding rod or a pipette in which the liquid is sucked up by a piston secured to the end of the rod 10.
