Improvements in or relating to marine life-saving appliances
Реферат: 139,582. Boddy, G. M. Feb. 17, 1919. Body attachments, buoyant. - In reversible life-saving appliances comprising front and back compartments of substantially the same amount of buoyancy, the compartments are constructed, and filled with buoyant material, such as kapok, cork, or reindeer hair, so that they have a maximum buoyancy at the bottom and a minimum at the top, whereby the buoyancy is not materially impaired, in case the top of the compartment is not immersed. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the compartments 1, instead of being approximately rectangular, are made considerably wider at the bottom 3 than at the top 2. In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5, which may be combined with that shown in Fig. 2, the compartments 4 more nearly approximate to the rectangular form, but are made substantially thicker at the bottom 5 than at the top 6, as shown in side view in Fig. 5. Additional buoyant compartments may be suitably attached to those above-described. The buoyant material may be secured in position within the compartments by stitching through the material, or by smocking &c.
