Improvements in buoyant marine life saving appliances
Реферат: 137,805. Edmonds, S. P. Jan. 17, 1919, [Convention date]. Body attachments, buoyant. - In life-saving appliances of the type consisting of a series of uncovered buoyant blocks 2 of cork, balsa wood, &c. loosely united by cords &c. 3 to form a girdle, a soft buoyant collar 10, which may be filled with kapok, is provided to protect the face and head of the wearer from being injured by the blocks when they are thrown upwards by the waves. The collar is provided with tapes 11, and is connected to the upper cord 3 by straps 14, with or without extensions or separate suspending straps 15; when the straps 15 are employed, the space 16 between them may be filled in with fabric, as shown. The blocks are preferably rectangular with the edges rounded or bevelled, those on either side of the arms being cut away on adjacent upper corners, as at 2a, to permit freedom of movement of the arms. The cords 3 are passed diagonally through the end blocks, thus bringing them near to the outer edge to facilitate tying. The girdle may also be arranged to fasten to one side, instead of centrally.
