Breech actions, sliding breech - block.-Relates to improvements in the breech actions described in Specifications No. 22,003, A.D. 1902, and No. 18,824, A.D. 1904. Figs. 3 and 4 are side views of the bolt in the unlocked and locked positions respectively. The improvements consist in replacing the cam, formed in the reduced rear end of the rotatable block 1 for the purpose of withdrawing the striker point by acting on the cocking-piece 24 during the unlocking of the bolt, by an inclined notch 4 on the unreduced portion of the block 1, where it butts against the front end of the carrier 6, and in providing a recess 38 in the block 1 into which the end of the cocking-piece 24 may enter, but not far enough for the striker point to protrude and lock the bolt lever 3 in the raised position so that the arm cannot be fired until the breech is closed. The cam on the reduced rear end of the block 1 may be retained for preventing the cocking-piece 24 from advancing too far along the recess 38.
