CLUTCH RELEASE MECHANISM An improved release mechanism for a hydraulically operated clutch. A tubular cylinder is formed between stationary inner and outer housings. A tubular piston has an inner end extending into the cylinder and has an outer end mounting a thrust bearing. Rotating clutch release levers engage the thrust bearing. One or more radial holes extend through the piston adjacent the inner end. Pins positioned in the holes extend into inner housing grooves which extend parallel to an axis of the release mechanism. The pins and grooves prevent rotation of the piston relative to the stationary housings, while allowing axial piston movement. A retainer ring is positioned in an annular groove in the exterior of the piston. The retainer ring both retains the pins in the piston holes and retains the piston in the cylinder.

The pressure is communicated into a chamber (11) between the large end faces of bore and sleeve and drives the sleeve into engagement with the bore and the shaft (4). The sleeve is released by releasing the pressure in the chamber and re-introducing the pressure to the conical interface between sleeve and bore thereby re-creating said clearance and releasing the grip on the shaft.

The piston 9 is guided within a guiding element 4 fitted into the outer cylinder casing 2. When the piston 9 moves axially to engage/disengage the clutch at least one restraining device 8 in the outer cylinder casing 2 is brought into engagement, eg by hydraulic pressure in chamber 18, with the guiding element 4 to hold it stationary relative to the outer cylinder casing 2. On depressurisation of the chamber 18 the restraining device 8 releases the guiding element 14. In this situation clutch wear results in the clutch springs axially displacing the piston 9 and, via shoulder 20, the guiding element 14 (see fig 2). The restraining device 8 may be a seal 5 having a radially pre-stressed sealing lip 7 which, when activated by hydraulic pressure, holds the guiding element 14 stationary. ...

Embodiments include an accumulator connected to a power takeoff fluid supply line and storing fluid (which may be under pressure) for selective use independent of the fluid being supplied by the fluid supply line. In some embodiments, the fluid in the accumulator is supplied to various components within the power takeoff, including the clutch plates (which may have fluid supplied prior to and/or during engagement), which can decrease wear and/or clutch temperature. In some embodiments, the fluid in the accumulator is supplied to the clutch piston to actuate the clutch piston when the pressure in the supply line is less than optimal and/or to stabilize the pressures in the hydraulic lines connected to the clutch piston. In still further embodiments, the fluid in the accumulator is supplied to the clutch when the fluid supply line pressure is less than optimal.

A method and an apparatus for controlling a wet clutch are provided. The clutch comprises a pump, a piston, and a fluid conduit. The pump provides a housing with a hydraulic fluid. The piston is movably disposed in the housing and is movable into an extended position by a preloaded spring and into a retracted position by applying an engagement pressure on the piston by the hydraulic fluid. In the retracted position torque is transmittable through the clutch. The fluid conduit connects the pump and the housing. The method comprises the steps of prefilling the clutch by applying a prefill pressure on the piston, prefilling the fluid conduit line and the housing with the hydraulic fluid. The prefill pressure is lower than the engagement pressure required to move the piston into the retracted position.

A clutch assembly comprising a clutch housing, a central piston chamber positioned therein and a translatable clutch piston movable between a piston neutral and activated positions in response to air pressure. A rotating drive shaft member is positioned within the clutch housing. A cone clutch friction member is moved from a clutch engaged position to a clutch disengaged position in response to the translatable clutch piston moving between the piston neutral and activated positions. The cone clutch friction member engages the rotating drive shaft when in the clutch engaged position. A clutch spring biases the cone clutch friction member into the clutch engaged position with a clutch engagement force. The cone clutch friction member comprises a V-shaped member with a hollow or solid core, or a bent metal member. Friction material is positioned on at least the surfaces which engage and make contact with the rotating drive shaft member. 1. A gear box has a clutch comprising a hub and a coupling, each having drive portions that are movable between engaged and disengaged positions. In the engaged position, the hub and coupling drive portions are engaged in a manner to allow torque to be transmitted between the hub and the coupling. In the disengaged position, the hub and coupling drive portions are spaced apart in a manner to prevent torque from being transmitted between the hub and the coupling. The clutch has an actuator that moves the hub and coupling drive portions between the engaged and disengaged positions. In moving the hub and coupling drive portions to the engaged position, the actuator is driven by spring pressure. In moving the hub and coupling drive portions to the disengaged position, the actuator is driven by hydraulic pressure supplied against the actuator sufficient to overcome the spring pressure.

The invention relates to a torque transmission device that is to be arranged in a drive train of a hybrid vehicle having an internal combustion engine, a transmission and an electric machine, the electric machine being arranged in the torque transmission device. The torque transmission device includes a disconnect clutch with clutch actuation, for decoupling the internal combustion engine from the transmission, and a primary torsional vibration damper on the crankshaft side. The invention has a secondary torsional vibration damper arranged on the transmission side, radially and axially inside the rotor and directly on the transmission-side output flange of the torque transmission device. This allows the installation space for the crankshaft-side primary torsional vibration damper to be increased, such that the damper can be optimally designed. In torque transmission devices which originally have no secondary damper, the design of the primary damper can be smaller and more compact since the secondary damper supports the vibration damping. Since the secondary damper is arranged inside the rotor of the electric machine and directly on the transmission-side output flange of the torque transmission device, this damper requires only minimal or no additional installation space. This leaves surplus installation space which can be used, for example, to reduce the size of the torque transmission device, in particular to axially shorten it, or be used to increase the size of the electric machine. 1.
