The contactless card may provide a message containing a checksum. The computing device may receive the message and calculate a checksum based on the received message. By comparing these two checksums, it may be determined whether the entire message has been correctly received. For example, each of the tag readers may transmit a tag query command using different modulated frequencies. In one embodiment, the RFID tag includes multiple receivers each tuned to one of the different frequencies generated by the tag readers. For example, one receiver in the tag is tuned to receive 200 MHz signals while another receiver is tuned to receive 900 MHz signals. To provide location information, the RFID tag compares power values associated with the received signals to determine which of the RFID tag readers is closest to the tag. The RFID tag conveys this location information to the tag readers by selecting one of the frequencies of the tag readers to use when generating a reply message.

The present disclosure provides methods and apparatuses for providing an audible feedback based on a proximity or a link quality between an external reader and a tag. The external reader transmits power to the tag with a radio frequency electromagnetic signal. The tag may rectify the radio frequency electromagnetic signal and create a rectified voltage. This rectified voltage may be used to power various components of the tag. Once it receives power from the reader, the tag may communicate information back to the external reader. The reader is able to create an audio output based on determining the proximity or link quality from the reader to the tag based on the backscatter radiation it receives from the tag. 1. Multiple antennas of a beamformer may simultaneously transmit wireless signals at different frequencies. The signals may comprise synchronized, identical wireless commands, each at a different carrier frequency. Disclosed are embodiments of methods, systems, and apparatus for singulating wireless tags. In one embodiment, a power ramping method is provided for tag singulation. This embodiment involves activating a control of an RFID reader for engaging power to begin reading RFID tags. The first reading is taken at a relatively low transmitting power level. If an RFID tag is not detected at the first power level, the power from the RFID reader is increased to a second higher power level. Increasing the transmitting power may be repeated until there is a final read volume where a single RFID tag, or a select number of such tags, is detected. Certain embodiments may provide for ramping the power down as well as up, so that if multiple tags are detected and only the closest tag is desired to be detected, tags can be excluded systematically from the read volume until only a single tag remains.

RFID tags may compensate for non-RFID power sources by automatically enforcing data or state persistence even while powered. A tag may measure a time interval between successive detected modulated reader transmissions. If the interval exceeds a minimum time, then the tag may deassert a protocol flag, erase data, and/or change tag operating states, even if the tag would normally not perform these actions while powered.

The industrial printer simultaneously prints on and electronically encodes/verifies RFID labels, tags, and/or stickers attached to a continuous web. The industrial printer comprises a lighted sensor array for indexing the printing to the RFID tags; and a cutter powered from the industrial printer for cutting the web that the RFID tags are disposed on. The industrial printer comprises two RFID reader/writers that are individually controlled. Specifically, one of the RFID reader/writers comprises the ability to electronically encode the RFID tags while the web is moving; and the second RFID reader/writer uses an additional RFID module and antenna on the printer for verifying the data encoded to the RFID tags. Further, the printer also comprises a quick release cover with thumbscrews that allow for easy removal.

A system comprising an RFID Reader and an array of RFID Tags, where the tags have the ability to measure physical signal properties such as FM deviation and Received Signal Strength as examples and use these measurements to create a means to refrain from responding to the Reader, unless the measured values fall inside a range determined by a built in algorithm or decision tree or by the Reader and transmitted to the array of Tags in an outbound message. The system may also use non-physical parameters, including tokens sent by the Interrogator/Reader to the Tag field. Moreover, physical parameters may be divided into maskable and unmaskable parameters. Signal frequency is not maskable by the environment, for example, but signal amplitude and phase are maskable by the environment during propagation. Additionally, the number, the nature and the range of each Multidimensional Variable are set by the Interrogator at the start of a session. In this way, foreknowledge or good estimates of the tag population will lead to higher efficiency operation.

A method of adjusting the 2-way communication range of an RFID system to assist a human operator to individually handle and interrogate a plurality of tagged objects, such as suitcases, that each include an RFID tag transceiver. An RFID interrogator transceiver is mounted on the human operator. The 2-way communication range between the interrogator transceiver and the tag transceivers is adjusted to only slightly exceed the closest distance between the interrogator and the tag while the operator is handling the tagged object. Preferably, the 2-way communication range is short enough that other tagged objects will remain outside the communication range and will not respond to messages from the interrogator. Another aspect of the invention is a method of verifying whether an object to be transported has reached its intended destination. In this aspect, an interrogator transceiver at a first destination interrogates an RFID tag transceiver on the object, and in response the tag transmits its intended destination.
