Compressible articles may be placed in the bag and sealed from the surrounding environment by placing a seal across the opening. The excess air in the bag may then be removed by placing a cylindrical attachment of a household vacuum cleaner over the one-way valve. Once the excess air is extracted, a cap is placed over the valve to ensure a permanent seal. Removal of excess air reduces the size of the compressible article and inhibits the growth of insects and bacteria, which may damage the contents of the bag. Moreover, the enclosure is impervious to moisture, and so inhibits the growth of mildew.

Dabei ist der Schließkörper (3) durch das in Durchströmrichtung (Pf 1) durch den Durchflusskanal (5) strömende Strömungsmedium von einer dichtend am Schließkörper-Gegenstück (4) anliegenden Schließstellung gegen die Rückstellkraft seiner Eigenelastizität und/oder Eigenstabilität in eine Offenstellung bewegbar. Der erfindungsgemäße Rückflussverhinderer (1) kann mit geringem Aufwand auch aus nur wenigen Bauteilen hergestellt werden. The co-moving carrier plate 240 shields the valve plate 220 to minimise pressure locking. Aerodynamic features urge the valve plate 220 towards or away from the carrier plate 240.

Embodiments of a compressor cutoff are presented. In an embodiment, the present invention includes apparatus for cutting off the flow of gas/liquid in the event of compressor failure or breakdown. In this embodiment, gas/liquid flows from its source through one or more passageways into a first input chamber, and also through one or more other passageways into a second input chamber, where the first and second input chambers are separated by a stop plunger. During the down-stroke of the compressor's piston, gas/liquid in the first chamber passes (or is drawn) through an inlet valve of the piston bore, and during the up-stroke of the piston that gas/liquid is forced through an outlet valve to a tank or other compressed gas/liquid receptacle. So long as the compressor operates normally, the pressure in the two input chambers (i.e., on each side of the stop plunger) will be substantially equal, thereby keeping the stop plunger in place. If, however, the compressor fails in a manner that exposes gas/liquid in the piston bore to the atmosphere, or otherwise results in a decrease in pressure in the piston bore, the pressure in the first input chamber will fall below the pressure in the second input chamber, thereby causing the stop plunger to move to a position in which it blocks the flow of gas/liquid from entering the inlet valve of the piston bore.

Embodiments of the invention are directed toward a novel pressurized vapor cycle for distilling liquids. In some embodiments of the invention, a liquid purification system is revealed, including the elements of an input for receiving untreated liquid, a vaporizer coupled to the input for transforming the liquid to vapor, a head chamber for collecting the vapor, a vapor pump with an internal drive shaft and an eccentric rotor with a rotatable housing for compressing vapor, and a condenser in communication with the vapor pump for transforming the compressed vapor into a distilled product. Other embodiments of the invention are directed toward heat management, and other process enhancements for making the system especially efficient.

A synthetic leaflet aortic and mitral heart valve for use in replacement of diseased natural heart valves having a flexible, curved framework, a flexible membrane attached to the framework and fixation means for attaching the valve to the tissue annulus. The framework consists of at least three curved flexible valve struts, each joined together at one end to a common central point of the valve and extending in the same direction radially at equal angles so that the free ends are unattached and at a distance from one another. The free ends are provided with sewing pads for artificial attachment of each free end separately to the natural tissue annulus or to an artificial annulus reconstruction ring which itself is sutured to the tissue annulus to restore its symmetry. The membrane is formed of a thin, common flexible synthetic material which is hemispherically shaped to fit over, and be attached to the framework to provide at least three partial hemispheric segments extending between adjacent frame struts in such a manner that the free edge of each segment can contact the tissue annulus when the valve is closed. Upon forward flow of the blood, the valve segments collapse inward against one another and allow blood to pass between the tissue annulus and the collapsed membrane segments.

A valve arrangement includes a valve body with a bore within which a spool slides to control fluid flow between first and second ports. The bore has an annular recess into which the first port opens and in which is located a check valve band formed by a strip with overlapping ends. Pressure in the first port causes the check valve band to contract and expand circumferentially to open and close the first port. A stop is located near one end of the strip and is engaged by the other end to limit the amount of contraction of the check valve band. Thus the diameter of the check valve band cannot contract smaller than the diameter of the bore, thereby retaining the check valve ring in the annular recess. The check valve band optionally has a plurality of tabs projecting from each edge and engaging side walls of the annular recess.

A disposable cassette for use with a medical infusion pump. An elastomeric membrane is captured between a facing member and a base of the cassette and is displaced into a pumping chamber. The elastomeric membrane includes a generally T-shaped lip, and corresponding grooves are provided on the facing member and base. As the cassette is assembled, an interference fit between the lip and the grooves causes the membrane to stretch taut and to be securely anchored, eliminating a break-in period when the cassette is initially used. 'Lobes' of increased thickness provided on the undersurface of a portion of the elastomeric membrane overlying the pumping chamber reduce the residual volume of the pumping chamber, thereby reducing the volume of air retained within the chamber and increasing the accuracy of the cassette. The lobes also sweep air bubbles from the sides of the pumping chamber during operation, further reducing air bubbles retained in the pumping chamber. A distal tube support retains a distal fluid line between air or pressure sensors included on a pump drive mechanism, thus reducing the likelihood of sensing errors. Inlet and outlet valve flaps and corresponding seating surfaces included in the base are configured to provide quieter operation, further reduce the residual volume of the pumping chamber, increase fluid velocity through the outlet valve to sweep air bubbles from the pumping chamber, and protect against a 'blown' inlet valve.

The check valve action is provided by a single resilient backcheck member which is deformably urged against annular valve seats by support members embodied in the housing opposite and central to the valved inlets. A conventional injection site may be provided in the housing so that additional fluids may be injected into the interior of the manifold through an inserted cannula. A chamber within the manifold is configured to direct a flowstream through the manifold onto and around the resilient backcheck member and all interior surfaces, eliminating dead space where air or fluids may collect, and enhancing flushing of the manifold. This enables simultaneous or sequential administration of multiple medicaments in low volume applications.

Two embodiments of the reed valve are disclosed, including an integral design where the unitary valve panel is insert molded with the valve body. In the second embodiment, the unitary reed valve is based on co-injection molding technology. Each reed valve design comprises only two component parts and becomes operable without the need for any additional mechanical components or fasteners. Pressure forces created by the fluid priming pump govern the opening and closing of valve panel portions for controlling the incoming and exiting fluid flow through the fluid priming pump.
