The bowl may be rotated, when in mixing or travelling or discharging position, by a motor on the frame and operatively connected to the bowl, the mixer being steered by the handles when propelled with the bowl in travelling position.

The device and method separates the processes of pressing out and mixing both in time and in space, rather than simultaneously combining the processes of pressing out and mixing through the use of static mixers, which is common with pasty two-component polymethylmethacrylate bone cements. The liquid, pasty and/or powdery components of the bone cement are mixed in a manually operated mixer into a cement dough before being pressed out in a homogeneous mixture. The press-out force required for dispensing is low and manually operated inexpensive cementing guns can be used. A mobile volume compensation element is used to compensate for volume fluctuations during the mixing process, without any cement dough exiting and without air being drawn into the cement dough.

A method and apparatus for mixing bone cement which produces bone cement essentially free of entrained air. The apparatus includes a cartridge having two telescoping cylinders. The outer cylinder receives a cap thereon which hermetically seals the cartridge. The cap includes an outlet pod in which a break-away agitator is installed and a pod for connection of a vacuum pump. In use, a desired vacuum pressure is drawn on the cartridge and the inner cylinder is allowed to be drawn into the outer cylinder while the vacuum is being drawn, whereupon the inner cylinder automatically stops moving relative to the outer cylinder when the desired vacuum pressure is reached. Mixing of the bone cement is then performed under the partial vacuum thereby created. The agitator paddles provide a scraping action against both inner cylinder walls of the telescoping cylinders thereby improving mixing. After mixing, the agitator is broken away, an appropriate nozzle is attached to the cartridge and the cartridge is inserted into a cement gun. The leading portion of the bone cement develops a convex profile when axially advanced through the cartridge and the piston plug includes a tapered protrusion which generally corresponds to the profile of the bone cement. The cap and paddles are also shaped correspondingly to the convex profile developed by the bone cement, resulting in substantially all of the bone cement being squeezed from the cartridge. An air escape passage is also provided to vent air contained within an annular gap between the agitator shaft and the cap upon initial expulsion of bone cement, resulting in the bone cement expelled from the cartridge being essentially free from entrained air.

Actuation of a plunger of the syringe may cause liquid to emerge from the mixing disc hole as a high velocity jet or other turbulent flow, stirring up any settled particles on a distal side of the mixing disc. A diluting and mixing device has a piston part (7) and a cylinder part (8). An axial bore (10) through the piston part is adapted to receive a tube (1) containing a liquid sample. An upper portion of the bore forms a first mixing chamber (12). A closed end of the cylinder part (8) defines a receptacle (15) for a diluting liquid (D) and a second mixing chamber. Movement of the piston part (7) within the cylinder part (8) towards its closed end forces diluting liquid (D) from the receptacle (15) through the bore towards the first mixing chamber (12) thereby flushing through a tube (1) positioned in the bore (10) to mix in the first mixing chamber (12) with a sample (S) displaced from the tube. Movement of the piston part (7) away from the closed end causes flow of diluted sample through the bore past the tube towards the second mixing chamber (15).

While the cup and the element are initially empty, the beverage can be poured from above the upper opening of the cup directly into the aerating element and is able to flow through the perforations in the hollow part facing upwards and descend under its own weight to the bottom of the cup for decanting and/or aerating of the beverage. The method of use of the said drinking container is also claimed. Verfahren zum Mischen und Applizieren von Mischgut, insbesondere medizinischem Zement, mit einer Misch- und Appliziervorrichtung umfassend die Schritte: Ein Kartuschenzylinder der Misch- und Appliziervorrichtung wird mit dem zu mischenden Gut gefüllt, eine Saugpumpe wird an einem Saugstutzen (36) angeschlossen und ein Mischer (2) samt eines Kolbens (3) in das Befüllende eines Kartuschenzylinders eingesteckt, durch Drehen und Hin- und Herschieben des Mischpaddels (22) innerhalb eines Mischguthohlraums wird das zu mischende Gut vermischt, nach Durchmischen wird der Mischpaddel (22) in Anlage an die Innenseite des Kolbens gebracht und die Betätigungsstange (21) so abgebrochen, dass der Mischguthohlraum verschlossen bleibt, der Kartuschenzylinder wird auf eine Applikatorpistole aufgesetzt, der Verschlussboden wird entfernt und statt dessen ein Applizierrohr am Austrittsende aufgeschraubt, die Applikatorpistole wird betätigt, wobei Druck auf den Kolben (3) und Zug auf den Flansch (13) des Kartuschenzylinders ausgeübt wird, wodurch die Haltekraft eines Rastrings (4) überwunden wird, mit der der Kolben (3) am Befüllende (11) des Kartuschenzylinders gehalten wird und der Kolben (3) wird zusammen mit dem in ihm steckenden, abgebrochenen Ende der Betätigungsstange durch die Applikatorpistole in Richtung auf das Austrittsende (12) des Kartuschenzylinders verschoben, um das Mischgut durch das Applizierrohr hindurch an geeigneter Stelle zu verbringen.

A fluent material mixer having a bottom barrel section with a mixed material exit and an upper barrel section from which an operating plunger shaft projects. The two barrel sections contain materials which are separated from each other and are to be mixed together prior to extrusion. A breakable separator is disposed between the barrel sections. A fluent material mixer plate with material bypassing holes defined in it is disposed on and movable through the barrel sections by the plunger shaft. A wiper is detented to position at the upper end of the upper barrel section. The wiper includes a plate without openings through it and it sealingly engages the interior of the barrel sections. A sleeve at the radially inward edge of the wiper wraps around the shaft for sealing against fluent materials moving out of the barrel sections along the shaft. Movable latches on the wiper plate are movable into a notch on the shaft for locking the wiper to the shaft, so that the wiper can thereafter be moved through the barrel sections along with the shaft to push mixed fluent materials out of the exit.

A method and apparatus for mixing bone cement which produces bone cement essentially free of entrained air. The apparatus includes a cartridge having two telescoping cylinders. The outer cylinder receives a cap thereon which hermetically seals the cartridge. The cap includes an outlet port in which a break-away agitator is installed and a port for connection of a vacuum pump. In use, a desired vacuum pressure is drawn on the cartridge and the inner cylinder is allowed to be drawn into the outer cylinder while the vacuum is being drawn, whereupon the inner cylinder automatically stops moving relative to the outer cylinder when the desired vacuum pressure is reached. Mixing of the bone cement is then performed under the partial vacuum thereby created. The agitator paddles provide a scraping action against both inner cylinder walls of the telescoping cylinders thereby improving mixing. After mixing, the agitator is broken away, an appropriate nozzle is attached to the cartridge and the cartridge is inserted into a cement gun. The leading portion of the bone cement develops a convex profile when axially advanced through the cartridge and the piston plug includes a tapered protrusion which generally corresponds to the profile of the bone cement. The cap and paddles are also shaped correspondingly to the convex profile developed by the bone cement, resulting in substantially all of the bone cement being squeezed from the cartridge. An air escape passage is also provided to vent air contained within an annular gap between the agitator shaft and the cap upon initial being essentially free from entrained air.

An apparatus and method are disclosed for mixing two components and delivering the mixture to a patient. The apparatus contains a mixing chamber for mixing a liquid component and a powder component. The liquid component and powder component are mixed within the mixing chamber by rotation of a collapsible mixing element (160). A plunger (210) is then advanced through the mixing chamber to force the mixture out of the mixing chamber and deliver the mixture to the patient.

The piece (4) has two passages for separate flowable components having two inlet openings. One of the inlet openings includes a cross-sectional surface different from the cross-sectional surface of another inlet opening. An element is provided for aligning the inlet openings in matching position to a dispensing device. The element is made as a plug element for reception in a corresponding cut-out of the dispensing device. The element is formed by the shape of the cross-sectional surface of the latter inlet opening.
