A headlamp levelling arrangement 1 considers both vehicle pitch and elevation of the headlamps above the road in order to maintain illumination of a constant distance in front of the vehicle. A vehicle posture detection system 2, preferably detecting the height of the chassis above the road (figure 2), measures the pitch of the vehicle. The control system 3 calculates an angular adjustment 3a for the pitch of the headlamps to compensate for the pitch of the vehicle. The control system then adds an angular correction 3b to compensate for deviation from a reference level of vehicle height, which also affects the range of the headlamps. This correction may be determined from the output of a height sensor at the front of the vehicle or it maybe determined from the acceleration of the vehicle as measured by a running state detection system 6.

The assembly serves to preserve the orientation of the light 20 during acceleration and deceleration of the cycle and thus during an elongation and contraction of the suspension 13 respectively, to illuminate the required section of road ahead of the cycle. The means 22 for pivoting the light 20 may be actuated by a series of levers 21, by cable (29, figure 3) or by pneumatic or hydraulic means (32, 33, figure 4). The multifunctional light device for a cultivator comprises: a pair of steering sensors; a lamp portion including a plurality of light emitting diodes; a lamp provided on one side of the lamp portion; and a control box having a manual operation portion, a tilt sensor, the steering sensor and a main control portion. According to the present invention, when a driver drives the cultivator, functions of left and right turn signals according to the steering can be performed even without separate operation of the driver. Even the driver drives the cultivator on dirt roads and sloping roads, function of the hazard flasher lamp can be automatically performed, thereby not only increasing the ease of use but also ensuring safe driving.

To provide a failsafe system, which ensures that the headlamps do not swing up to dazzle oncoming traffic, if one or both servos fail, the salve cylinder on each headlamp has two pistons linked by a spring and with the first piston linked to the tilt control by a spring linkage. The output of the two axle servos are introduced on opposite sides of the second piston, so that their total effective force, being the difference in the outputs, pushes against the sprung linkage to lift the headlamps.
