The method of making self-activating thread lock structures which comprises depositing a fluid material including an uncured fluid resin e.g. of microencapsulated material in the thread grooves of a threaded member; immediately thereafter, while the material is still in fluid condition, applying a thin fluid film- forming cover coat over the fluid material; and immediately thereafter transforming the cover coat into a thin, solid, dry, non-tacky, rupturable film by brief exposure to radiation, such as ultra-violet radiation. As previously noted excellent results have been obtained using ultra- violet lamps as the source of radiation to effect substantially immediate cure of the film-forming material, but other sources are comtemplated, such as electron beam radiation. Preferred film-formers are derived from acrylated urethane and glycidyl ether monomers, di- and tri- acrylate monomers, vinyl pyrrolidone, vinyl versatate and vinyl acetate.

Good resistance to organic and inorganic liquids/gases at -20 degrees C to +150 degrees C. The synthetic resin system is pref. liquid and contains a solvent and a lubricant. The system may be applied by electrophoresis in an immersion bath.

The fastener (10) includes a washer (14) installed on the pin member (12) against the bearing surface (24) of the head (20) of the pin member (12). The washer (14) includes an outer surface and at least one dielectric gasket layer located on the outer surface of the washer (14).

The pin member can be fully coated with a coating. A conformable seal element is attached to the pin member, which is adapted to fill the microscopic voids between the bearing surface of the head of the pin member and the surrounding structure under the axial load exerted by the fastener during installation. The seal element can be separate and distinct from the pin member. The seal element can be attached to the pin member for the sake of convenience, but the seal element can deform independently of the pin member and the surrounding structure in response to the forces exerted by the fastener.

Self-tapping screw can be made easier, than conventional self-tapping screw, which is made in form of drill, tip consists of harder material, than body and is welded to stainless steel body. Thus, self-tapping screw is completely austenite self-tapping screw from main material, which is equipped with hard coating.
