Foamed moulded article

Thermoplastic granules with an incorporated expansion (blowing) agent additionally contain, incorporated in finely distributed form, a solid nucleating agent. In the production of thermoplastic granules (27) of this kind, first of all a nucleating agent is drum-coated onto the surface of the plastic granules, that is to say extremely finely distributed and applied so as to adhere firmly, the plastic granules thus prepared are mixed in an extruder (15) with plastication to form a homogeneous material, the strand of material (19) emerging from the extruder (15) being converted to granules (27) in a manner known per se with cooling and prevention of expansion. Thermoplastic material of this kind is used in a manner known per se for producing foamed moulded articles, the prefoamed articles, after prefoaming of the plastic granules, being completely foamed in a mould (34), with heat treatment, to form moulded articles. <IMAGE>
