Method and apparatus for dynamic leveling
A method and apparatus for dynamically leveling the attitude of a vehicle (102) using a low power fully active suspension system (100). The system (100) connects the front and rear suspensions (114 and 104) and body (103) of the vehicle (102) and includes a hydraulic damper (110) having a pressure cylinder (144) forming a working chamber (146) in which a piston and rod assembly (148) is movably disposed. The system (100) further comprises a flow control device (130) fluidly communicating with the working chamber (146) on one side of the piston (148) for adding and exhausting damping fluid therefrom to a central pressure source (132), and an accumulator (128) fluidly communicating with the working chamber (146) on the opposite side of the piston (148). The system (100) having flow restriction valving (156) for selectively controlling the flow of fluid with said working chamber (146). The flow restriction valving (156) located between the flow control device (130) and the accumulator (128). The lower power fully active suspension system (100) is adapted to produce a desired suspension force output through selective actuation of the flow control device (130) and the flow restriction valving (156) for limiting the duty cycle and power requirements of the central pressure source (132).
