[2]

The present invention concerns a connection device with sealing between two end pieces for communicating of two volumes, and more specifically to a medical device for connections to be made in good conditions of sterility.

[3]

In the medical field, it is imperative to make the connections between pipes for example for infusion or transfusion under conditions avoiding the contamination of the patient by the transferred liquid®

[4]

The importance of excellent sterility connections in the particularly in peritoneal dialysis. This technique enables the cleaning of blood of an individual not by passage of blood in a dialysis, but by embodiment 1' dialysis operation at the patient's peritoneum, which acts as a dialysis membrane, after introduction into the volume defined by the peritoneum of a certain amount of solute.

[5]

A first conduit leading to the peritoneum and traversing the various muscle walls of the abdomen of the patient, is installed permanently. On this pipeline is mounted a line die several tens of centimeters in length which remains in place for several weeks and is set in place and removed under medical screening. The;: risk of contamination at this level can be minimized. The free end of the above line for connection to the container containing the dialysis fluid pure and which is also intended to receive the dirty liquid after dialysis, the container can be constituted for example by a flexible bag made of synthetic material.

[6]

The hallmark of peritoneal dialysis is that treatment with high efficiency, without requiring a significant hardware, home even patient, permanent without medical supervision.

[7]

It spring mode operation previously described that each connection between the line and the pouch containing the pure liquid or for receiving the dirty liquid, must be carried out under sterile conditions of perfect, operative to prevent contamination resulting in very fast in peritonitis. The risks of contamination are important because the solutes used for trades are physiological media promoting germination, the change being effected container 4 to 5 times a day. Furthermore, the patient already suffering from renal failure has limited immune defense capabilities.

[8]

The present invention aims to overcome the deficiencies of the existing technique by providing a device for connecting two end caps in sterile conditions, that can satisfy perfectly suited for peritoneal dialysis.

[9]

The connection device that it relates is type having two caps each secured to a tube or container, these two end pieces being complementary of known type, for example luer, and for providing a connection with seal on the connection of two volumes.

[10]

According to the essential feature of the invention, each extension is surrounded by a substantially cylindrical skirt connected to a collar affixed to the end under consideration and allowing passage thereof, the flange being recessed with respect to the connection end of the nozzle which is itself recessed from the edge of the skirt, the skirt diameter surrounding a tip being different than the diameter of the skirt surrounding the other hub, each hub being associated with a cap comprising a base from which extends a generally cylindrical skirt, engageable with the seal on the skirt surrounding said tip.

[11]

The advantage of this arrangement is that each plug may receive a certain amount of antiseptic and form, with the skirt of the tip associated therewith, a reservoir to hold the this tip in sterile conditions.

[12]

The use of this device is as follows, since it is considered that the ' patient's peritoneum contains a volume of interest of solute and begin the cycle through a drainage:

[13]

~unplug the empty pouch for drainage,

[14]

- open the line and laying the plug associated therewith, so that its bottom rests on a clean surface, the skirt being turned upwards,

[15]

- connecting the line and the pocket,

[16]

- placing the empty pocket to a level lower than that

[17]

the peritoneum of the patient,

[18]

- open the clamp closing the line,

[19]

leave the solute, the draining.

[20]

During drainage time, proceed to the following operations:

[21]

- fill the cap of the line with an antiseptic,

[22]

- take a fresh pocket,

[23]

- within its package and the candling,

[24]

- therein optionally adding, sterile drugs. After drainage is completed, it must:

[25]

- close the clamp associated with the line,

[26]

- campling the ladle full of fluid drained,

[27]

- open the pocket fresh,

[28]

- disconnect the pouch worn,

[29]

- connecting the pocket fresh and the line,

[30]

- breaking the shutter of the pocket if a,

[31]

- open the gripper of the line,

[32]

- hanging the bag to a level above that of the peritoneum and leave 1' injection of dialysate therein occur. During injection, the patient fills the plug from the pocket with an antiseptic. Then when the injection is complete, proceed to the following operations 9.ï

[33]

- close the clip the line,

[34]

- disconnect the pocket and the line,

[35]

- recapping the line with its plug filled

[36]

the d * antiseptic,

[37]

- adjustments in the pocket with its stopper REs&Pli

[38]

Ÿ■.

[39]

, i-antiseptic *,

[40]

- fold line,

[41]

- storing the pocket until the next draining.

[42]

This arrangement has the benefit of:

[43]

- ensuring sterility of a wire connection days despite the repeated handling,

[44]

- simplify the manipulations necessary to adapt sterile container and tubing,

[45]

- allow a person to provide free medical training on itself a therapeutic repetitive,

[46]

- be very easy-embodiment and, therefore, a low cost.

[47]

In any event, the invention will be clearly understood

[48]

the aid of the description which follows with reference to the appended schematic drawing representing, by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment of the connection device:

[63]

As regards the proper cap 8 and _ 15 on their respective end pieces, after they have been filled with antiseptic liquid, it should be noted that it is done, the cap over a horizontal surface, engagement of the skirt associated with the tip being considered at 1' âü plug into the skirt.
