The color of an LED-based lamp can be tuned to a desired color or color temperature. The lamp can include two or more independently addressable groups of LEDs associated with different colors or color temperatures and a total-internal-reflection (TIR) color-mixing lens to produce light of a uniform color by mixing the light from the different groups of LEDs. A method for depositing a layer of phosphor-containing material on a plurality of LED (light-emitting diode) dies on a wafer , the method comprising:disposing a layer of dry photoresist film over a plurality of LED dies on a wafer;disposing a mask layer over the dry photoresist film; andpatterning the dry photoresist film to form a plurality of openings in the dry photoresist film to expose a top surface of each of the LED dies;depositing a phosphor-containing material on the exposed top surface of each the LED dies using a screen printing process; andremoving the patterned dry photoresist film.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patterned dry photoresist film is configured to cover bond pad areas on the LED dies.3. The method of claim 1 , wherein a depth of the openings in the photoresist layer is equal to a desired thickness of the phosphor-containing material.4. An LED-based lamp can be made to have a form factor compatible with fixtures designed for MR16 lamps. Such a lamp can have a housing that provides an external electrical connection. Inside the housing is disposed a single emitter structure having a substrate with multiple light-emitting diodes (LEDs) arranged thereon. Different LEDs produce light of different colors (or color temperatures). For example, at least one LED can produce a warm white light, while at least one other LED produces a cool white light and at least one other LED produces a red light. A total-internal-reflection (TIR) lens is positioned to collect light emitted from the single emitter structure and adapted to mix the light from the LEDs to produce a uniform white light. The lamp can include two or more independently addressable groups of LEDs associated with different colors or color temperatures and a total-internal-reflection (TIR) color-mixing lens to produce light of a uniform color by mixing the light from the different groups of LEDs. Substrates and packages for LED-based light devices can significantly improve thermal performance and provide separate electrical and thermal paths through the substrate. One substrate includes multiple electrically insulating base layers. On a top one of these layers are disposed top-side electrical contacts, including light device pads to accommodate a plurality of light devices. External electrical contacts are disposed on an exterior surface of the substrate. Electrical paths connect the top-side electrical contacts to the external electrical contacts. At least portions of some of the electrical paths are disposed between the electrically insulating base layers. A method for automatic sampling of immune cells from a biological fluid sample, e.g., whole blood, deposited in a well of a microwell plate. The sample contains red blood cells (RBCs) and magnetic beads which are designed to bind to the RBCs. The magnet causes the RBCs bound to the magnetic beads to be attracted to and migrate to a wall of the well (e.g., the bottom or side wall) and be held against the wall. The shaker is then operated to shake the microwell plate in a manner and for a time period so as to suspend substantially evenly or homogeneously the immune cells in the biological fluid sample within a region of the well but still retain the holding of the RBCs to the wall of the well such that the immune cells are substantially isolated from the RBCs in the region of the well. During or after shaking, a sample probe is then lowered into the region of the well to withdraw a portion of the sample containing the immune cells.

As a result, the two groups produce light having colors on opposite sides of the target color in the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) chromaticity diagram. In some embodiments, the target color and color variations of both groups are on one straight line in the CIE chromaticity diagram, although it is to be understood that there might be small scattering within the groups. By adjusting the relative brightness of the two groups, the target color can be obtained.
