NON-TOXIC ANT-REPELLING GEL

Номер: US20220053777A1
Автор: Jenkins Dennis B.
Принадлежит:

A natural non-toxic ant-repelling gel or tape is created by combining certain fatty acids with a thickening agent. The gel or tape has the surprising ability to be used safely around food, children and pets, because it is derived from an edible source. Over time, the gel composition hardens to become less tacky, thicker and more resilient and resistant to wear and tear. The gel or tape is applied to permanently block or repel ants. Since this is an oil-based gel composition, it is also long-lasting and water-proof, so it can be used outside. One particular use is to block the path of ants attempting to access a hummingbird feeder or nectar bird feeder. 1. A method for safely blocking and repelling ants from invading hummingbird nectar feeders using a water-resistant gel composition non-toxic to hummingbirds , the method comprising the following steps:Obtaining free oleic acid from monounsaturated oil;Formulating a gel composition containing the free oleic acid and a thickening agent, the thickening agent selected from the group consisting of a high viscosity wax, an oleophilic gelling agent, a polymer, a copolymer of acrylic acid, a high surface area material, a clay, precipitated silica, diatomaceous earth, fumed silica, surface-treated fumed silica, silicone, silicon dioxide and combinations thereof such that the composition has the smell of dead ants;Enclosing the gel composition within a packaging means selected from the group consisting of a syringe, a flexible squeeze tube, a squeeze tube, a caulking gun, a paste dispenser, a can, a bottle, a spray bottle, a bag, a pouch, a packet, tube, and combinations thereof;Applying a layer of the gel composition from the packaging means in a contiguous band around a hummingbird feeder supporting pole or hook to repel ants therefrom;Triggering the necrophobic instinct of ants to flee; andPhysically irritating the ants being blocked and repelled.2. Antimicrobial films for generating singlet oxygen and their use is described. The antimicrobial films are generally thin films having two surfaces or faces. The first surface of the film is adhesive. Various adhesives, including, electrostatic charges, are possible. The second surface faces in a direction opposite from the first surface. The second surface of the film emits singlet oxygen when activated by light or ultrasound. Various photosensitizers can be incorporated onto the second surface of the films for generating the singlet oxygen. The singlet oxygen and other radical species generated from the antimicrobial films diffuses out from and in proximity to the films to form a layer or cloud of singlet oxygen at a concentration sufficient to inactivate microbial particles, e.g., viruses and other pathogens, that come within the singlet oxygen layer to provide a protective zone against microbial particles. 1. An antimicrobial film , comprising:a first surface facing in a first direction;a second surface facing in a second direction opposite from the first surface, wherein the first surface and the second surface extend along a width and a length of the film, and wherein a distance separating the first surface and the second surface corresponds to a thickness of the film;one or more material layers are included between the first and the second surfaces of the film;wherein the first surface of the film is adhesive; andwherein the second surface of the film emits singlet oxygen that is toxic to microbial particles incident on the second surface when activated by light or ultrasound.2. DISINFECTANT-DOSING MICROGEL AND METHOD OF USING THE SAME

Номер: US20220071216A1

The disinfectant-dosing microgel is formed from a mixture of a sol and a solution of a disinfecting and deodorizing agent. In use, the sol phase is transformed, by various conditions, into an active microgel. The disinfectant-dosing microgel is applied to the waste, such as by spraying, mixture therewith or the like. The combination of the sol and the solution of the disinfecting and deodorizing agent or, alternatively, the combination of the polymer and the solution of the disinfecting and deodorizing agent, is triggered to transform from the sol phase into the active microgel for long-term disinfection and deodorization of the waste by the temperature, pH, and/or salt concentration of the waste. The transformation to the active microgel for long-term disinfection and deodorization of the waste can also be initiated by adding chemical substances to alter the pH or promote gelation, either before, during or after application to the waste. 1. A disinfectant-dosing microgel , comprising:a sol comprising a colloidal substance in a dispersion medium, wherein the colloidal substance has a concentration of 0.1-20.0 wt % of the sol; anda solution of a disinfecting and deodorizing agent, wherein the disinfecting and deodorizing agent has a concentration of 0.1-15.0 wt % of the solution.2. A formulation for preparing a fibrous material comprising nanofibers , comprising the following components:(a) at least one polymer,(b) at least one solvent in which the at least one polymer is dissolved to provide a polymer solution, and (c1) a biocide,', '(c2) a processing aid,', '(c3) a barrier for physical and/or chemical contaminants,, '(c) at least one functional additive that imparts functionality to the fibrous material, wherein the at least one functional additive comprises one or more selected from the following groups (c1) to (c3)wherein the at least one functional additive is dissolvable or suspensible in the polymer solution.2. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein components (a) to (c) add up in total to 100 wt. % of the formulation claim 1 , and wherein components (c1) claim 1 , (c2) and (c3) are present in the formulation individually or in any combination.3. The formulation of claim 1 , wherein the biocide is selected from the group consisting of povidone-iodine (PVP-I) claim 1 , octenidine (OCT) claim 1 , polybiguanides claim 1 , quaternary ammonium compounds claim 1 , chloroxylenol claim 1 , silver nanoparticle (Ag-NP) claim 1 , silica nanoparticle (Si-NP) claim 1 , polyethyleneimines (PEI) claim 1 , N-halamines claim 1 , zinc citrate claim 1 ...
