Dieser Kanal (20) weist bevorzugterweise eine Verbreiterung (22) auf und wird beidseitig begrenzt durch Versteifungsmittel (21), die bevorzugterweise als Versteifungswände oder zusätzlich als Versteifungsrippen gebildet sind. Systems, devices, and methods are disclosed for the cleaning of an endotracheal tube while a patient is being supported by a ventilator connected to the endotracheal tube for the purpose of increasing the available space for airflow or to prevent the build up of materials that may constrict airflow or be a potential nidus for infection. In one embodiment, a mechanically-actuated endotracheal tube cleaning device is configured to removably receive a visualization member to provide cleaning of the endotracheal tube under direct visualization.

Apparatus for fitting to the head of a patient for supply of gas to the nose at a positive pressure for treatment of snoring and sleep apnea comprises headgear for fitting to the head of a patient. A mask support forms part of said headgear and is held, in use, by portions of said headgear in a stable position above the nose of the patient. The mask support includes a manifold chamber, a first connector opening above said manifold chamber for attachment of a gas supply line and a second connector depending from said manifold chamber. The above apparatus may be used with a novel nasal mask which is a nares seal that may be removably connected to said second connector by a third connector forming part of said seal and having an air orifice formed therethrough. The seal further comprises first and second laterally spaced delivery tubes connecting with said air orifice and defining between them a generally triangular open space which extends, when in use, downwardly to a point below the nose of a patient. The delivery tubes thence curves inwardly and upwardly to approach the nose of a patient and supports first and second nostril tubes connected with said delivery tubes for insertion into the nares of a patient. Wire support for said laterally spaced tubes extends from the connector to about where said tubes curve inwardly and upwardly.

Disclosed is a hand-held medical device to facilitate positioning of airway tubes in patient airways. A wide range of nasally placed airway tubes can be attached to the device suited for the manipulation of said airway tubes by rotation and curvature, the latter of which is provided by a soft, flexible manipulator (2) being part of the device to be slidably inserted into the airway tube and containing a spring (27) which is attached at its distal end by a braided wire (28) the pulling of which will cause flexion of the manipulator and said airway tube that surrounds it. The device additionally allows for patient inspiration and expiration to pass unrestricted through the body of the device deflecting one-way (13-14) valves positioned in clear tubes on the sides of the device allowing for visual confirmation of proper final placement of said airway tube by observing movements of valves (13,14) and fogging of tube 9 on expiration. A stethoscope headset attached to the device provides an audible reference for guiding said airway tube and affords an additional reference to confirm proper final placement of said airway tube.

An oropharyngeal airway, comprising an upper curved surface part (11), an upper flat surface part (12) positioned on the outer side of the upper curved surface part (11), a lower curved surface part (21), and a lower flat surface part (22) positioned on the outer side of the lower curved surface part (21). Two first connecting walls (3), left and right, are arranged between the upper curved surface part (11) and the lower curved surface part (21). A center airway (4) and two side airways (5) are formed between the upper curved surface part (11), the lower curved surface part (21), and the two first connecting walls (3). The distance between the two first connecting walls (3) gradually decreases in the gas flow direction, such that the center airway (4) becomes increasingly narrower and the two side airways (5) become increasingly wider. The first connecting walls (3) are arranged so as to form a concave shape and made of a flexible, water-absorbent material. The pressure differentials between the left and right sides of each first wall resulting from Bernoulli's principle in fluid mechanics are used to cause the oropharyngeal airway to be able to, while also improving air flow, absorb secretions, reduce reflux aspiration, keep clear a field of vision for a cannula, reduce the time a patient is without oxygen during tracheal tube insertion, while also reducing adverse reactions caused by potential stimulation of the patient's oropharynx from necessary use of an external negative-pressure suction device to clear secretions.
