A method and composition for hyperthermally treating tumor cells in a patient under conditions that affect tumor stem cells and tumor cells. In one embodiment, the method is administered in combination with localized internal ionizing radiation therapy. 1. A method of simultaneously providing localized internal ionizing radiation therapy in combination with thermal therapy to a target site in a patient in need thereof , the method comprisingadministering to the patient a composition of nanoparticles, the nanoparticles containing at least one radioactive isotope and coated with anti-tumor antibodies, the radioactive nanoparticle resulting in radiation therapy at a dose sufficient to damage tumor-associated vessels at the localized target site, andadministering localized thermal therapy at the target site essentially simultaneously during the radiation therapy.3.
