The invention relates to a process for producing finished mouldings with regions of different cross-section from thermoplastic materials, in particular chamber and membrane filter plates for solid-liquid separation, in a heatable compression mould comprising an upper part and a lower part. The invention is characterised in that first of all a plate-shaped preform, adapted approximately to the relative cross-section and volume dimensions of the finished moulding is laid in the compression mould. Then, during closing of the compression mould, the regions of the preform initially bearing against the compression mould are superficially melted. The material thus melted is displaced by the final closing of the compression mould into the still existing cavities of the compression mould.

A filter core and manufacturing method thereof, the manufacturing method has the following steps: adhering a wavy filtering sheet and a flat filtering sheet, pressing the filtering sheets, and rolling the filtering sheets. A part of peaks of the wavy filtering sheet are pressed to lean toward a same side. In particular, two sides of a first end sealing adhesive layer are pressed. Thus, the first end sealing adhesive layer is concentrated, such that the glue is uniformly spread to the two sides. Besides, the pressing on the two sides makes the two sides of the first end sealing adhesive layer adhered securely, thereby preventing the wavy filtering sheet from rebounding upward and forming bubbles. Thus, the first end sealing adhesive layer can be formed with less quantity of glue, which accelerating the cooling and raises manufacture efficiency.

It is possible in this process also to manufacture multi-layered filter pads, it having been surprisingly found in those multi-layered filter pads that the layer assembly is kept intact during the filtration even in the filter packing that no longer contains binders. The filter pads or the filter packings produced therefrom according to the invention can, when used, and after reflushing and regeneration operations, finally be utilized, after being replaced, as filter aids in the deposit filtration process.

Fluted filter media includes filter material (100) having a plurality of flutes formed therein having alternating ends of adjacent flutes closed (120) to force fluid through filter material. A part of peaks of the wavy filtering sheet are pressed to lean toward a same side. In particular, two sides of a first end sealing adhesive layer are pressed. Thus, the first end sealing adhesive layer is concentrated, such that the glue is uniformly spread to the two sides. Besides, the pressing on the two sides makes the two sides of the first end sealing adhesive layer adhered securely, thereby preventing the wavy filtering sheet from rebounding upward and forming bubbles. Thus, the first end sealing adhesive layer can be formed with less quantity of glue, which accelerating the cooling and raises manufacture efficiency.

Preferably the winding is conducted using a strip that has both a front side sealant strip and a backside sealant strip, most preferably at least the backside sealant strip is foamed polyurethane.

Density of the wound cylinder is controlled by controlling the distance between the rotating mandrel and the orifices of the spinning die through which the molten polymeric material is spun. If the spinning of the fibers is continuous, the cylinder can be formed in a continuous length. Control of the spinning rate in relation to the diameter and rate of rotation of the mandrel and the rate of advance of the cylinder on the mandrel controls the thickness of the cylinder. The cylinder can be drawn off the mandrel and used as a cylinder, or either slit lengthwise and opened out, or collapsed onto itself, for use as a sheet. A filter apparatus and method utilize a filter element having a central winding frame and a length of fluted filter material wound about the frame with the flutes of the media oriented substantially longitudinally, to thereby provide for filtration of a flow of fluid passing axially through the filter element. The winding frame is a substantially open, truss-like structure, having a smooth outer periphery and an axially extending winding feature to facilitate pulling the media into intimate contact with the smooth outer periphery during fabrication of the filter element. A leading edge of the filter media is anchored to a leading edge of the frame by a length of tape.

A single facer media is provided according to the invention. The single facer media includes a fluted sheet attached to a facing sheet and having a first end and a second end so that when the single facer media is formed into a media pack, the first end or the second end forms a media pack first face, and the other of the first end or the second end forms a media pack second face. Adhesive is provided between the fluted sheet and the facing sheet at the first end or the second end, and wherein the fluted sheet and the facing sheet are pushed together and adhered together at the location of the adhesive to provide a seal between the fluted sheet and the facing sheet. At least 25% of the flutes of the fluted sheet comprise at least one ridge extending along at least 50% of the flute length between adjacent peaks. Filtration media packs, filter elements, and methods for forming a single facer media are provided.

A method and apparatus are provided, for forming a filter element including a media pack in the form of a coiled fluted filter media, by winding the web of fluted filter media around a pair of tools of a mandrel. The tools engage the sides of the filter media. The tools define a major to provide the media pack with a oblong or elongated shape. The web may be fed at constant linear speed, and/or a motor may be controlled in a manner to provide constant driving torque to maintain a constant tension on the web. The winding apparatus and methods may include apparatus or methods to modify the feed path of the web to adjust the tension of the web as it is being wound. Further, the coiled media packs can be fixtured to prevent relaxation. A method may form various shaped media packs with the same apparatus.

A method for manufacturing filter elements, in which sealant does not get onto the rolling claw and rolling of the roll filter paper is made easy. A long roll filter paper having laterally oriented filter parts for filtering, the filter parts being open on the inflow side of the roll filter paper and closed on the outflow side of the roll filter paper, is rolled. During rolling, a sealant is applied to the surface of the roll filter paper in a narrow longitudinal strip, in such a way that the sealant does not make contact with the rolling claw. The roll-start end of the roll filter paper is gripped with the rolling claw during rolling. The rolling claw is made up of 2 or 4 rolling bars having the shape of the parts produced when a cylinder is split into two halves along its axis.

The typical process comprises using z-filter media comprising a fluted, and preferably corrugated, sheet secured to a non-fluted non-corrugated facing sheet. The method generally includes steps of: (a) guiding a front end extension of a strip of z-filter media into a media catch slot of a winding hub; (b) in follow up, coiling the strip of media around the outside of the winding hub, with the facing sheet directed outwardly, to form a resulting media coil; and (c) removing the resulting media coil from the winding hub. Preferably the winding is conducted using a strip that has both a front side sealant strip and a backside sealant strip, most preferably at least the backside sealant strip is foamed polyurethane.
