The divider defines an inlet and outlet facing respective upstream and downstream ends. The divider transfers heat from exhaust passing through the bypass chamber to the reducing agent inside the mixing chamber. In other embodiments, the baffle partially defines a first passageway substantially parallel to and offset from a center axis for delivering a portion of the exhaust to the mixing chamber, and a ramped surface partially defining a second passageway transverse to the first passageway for delivering another portion of the exhaust to the mixing chamber.

There is provided an improved method for dispersing a treatment media in a body of molten metal using an impeller to disperse the media in the body of molten metal, the method producing increased shear forces in the body of molten metal and reducing vortex formation. The method comprises the steps of providing a body of molten metal and an impeller on a shaft in the body. A treatment media is added to the body and dispersed by rotating said impeller in one direction and thereafter reversing the direction of rotation of the impeller to a counter direction. The direction of rotation of the impeller is reversed periodically to substantially reduce formation of a vortex around the shaft of the impeller and to provide increased shear forces in the body for purposes of improving treatment of the molten metal by improved dispersion of the media therein.

Excellent mixing and superior pressure drop characteristics are achieved in a device comprising at least two supply channels to feed a mixing chamber and create a vortex. The alignment of the supply channels is such that fluids are introduced into the chamber at both tangential and radial directions. In the case of gas/liquid mixing, particularly advantageous is the injection of the liquid stream tangentially and the gas stream radially. When two liquid streams are mixed, it is desirable to distribute them into fine, interdigitated channels prior to introduction into a supply channel and finally into the chamber. The mixed stream is generally withdrawn from the center of the swirling vortex and in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the vortex.

A fluid mixing device comprising a plurality of nozzles connected to an inlet port for receiving a fluid and directing the fluid to the plurality of nozzles , and connected to an outlet port , wherein each of the plurality of nozzles has a longitudinal axis substantially parallel to a main direction of fluid flow and each of the plurality of nozzles comprises:a converging chamber having an inflow portion for receiving fluid from the inlet port and an outflow portion, a diameter of the inflow portion being greater than a diameter of the outflow portion;a chemical injection port connected to the outflow portion of the converging chamber, and adapted for delivering a chemical agent to the converging chamber;a diverging chamber having an inflow portion and an outflow portion, a diameter of the inflow portion of the diverging chamber being smaller than a diameter of an outflow portion of the diverging chamber;a nozzle throat in fluid connection with the outflow portion of the converging chamber and the inflow portion of diverging chamber, the nozzle throat having a diameter that is smaller than any other portion of the nozzle; andan adjustable self-opening valve disposed in the diverging chamber and adapted such that when a pressure across a surface of the adjustable self-opening valve substantially perpendicular to each axis is higher than a predetermined value, the adjustable self-opening valve opens,wherein each of the plurality of nozzles is adapted such that flowing the fluid through the mixing device produces a homogenous mixture of the fluid and the chemical agent in the diverging chamber.2. There is provided a mixing device ( 2 ) for a beverage and CO2 gas for producing carbonated beverage. The mixing device ( 2 ) having a mixing channel ( 4 ) extending in a main direction ( 10 ). At least a first delimiting surface ( 22 ) of the mixing channel ( 4 ) is provided with protrusions ( 20 ) extending at least partially along the first delimiting surface ( 22 ) in a direction across the mixing channel ( 4 ) and protruding towards a second delimiting surface ( 24 ) of the mixing channel ( 4 ) to form the narrow channel sections ( 18 ). A turbulent flow of beverage is created by the narrow and wide channel sections. Further a carbonator for producing carbonated beverage, an appliance having a carbonator, and a method of producing a carbonated beverage are provided.
