A non fouling atomiser includes vessel 8 with outlet tube 7 and atomiser assembly which consists of tube 2 with optional disc 11 and a number of small holes 3. The material to be atomised 9 is placed in the vessel 8 and a supply of compressed gas 1 used to produce high velocity jets (4, Fig 1). The holes are placed and sized to form jets which interact with each other to create high levels of turbulence which produce energetic mixing, droplet formation, fluidisation or reactions. Unlike atomisers which require a dip leg tube, the design is non fouling because no liquid passes through the small holes and can therefore be used to atomise liquids containing solids such as crystals or powders as well as clean liquids. In combustion applications the invention produces intense secondary mixing eliminating the need for pre-mixing of combustion gases.

The cleaning method of claim 1 , whereinthe cover assembly includes a lid and a tool; and the lid closes the opening into the wash tank; and', 'the tool projects into the cavity of the wash tank from the lid., 'when the cover assembly is mated with the wash tank3. The cleaning method of claim 2 , wherein the tool comprises a mixing device.4. The cleaning method of claim 2 , wherein the tool comprises a material pickup conduit.5. An apparatus for atomizing and dispensing a coating material includes a turbine having a housing and a shaft for rotatably supporting an atomizing device. The shaft includes an outer end extending from the housing for mounting the atomizing device. The shaft outer end includes a tapered portion, and the atomizing device includes a central tapered aperture for receiving the tapered portion of the shaft outer end. The housing is divided into a high-pressure side and a low-pressure side by a nozzle plate which directs the flow of compressed air from the high-pressure side across a driven wheel mounted on the shaft adjacent the nozzle plate. The high-pressure side lies between the atomizing head and the nozzle plate so that compressed air moving through the nozzle plate and the driven wheel to the low-pressure side flows away from the atomizing head. This motor arrangement minimizes parasitic air leakage around the shaft and disturbances to the film of coating material on the atomizing device which could result from such parasitic leakage.

The supply spot is set in a chamber formed in the bell body or in an axial indentation of same. The rinsing agent flows through centrifugal action over a rear ring edge of the outer face and from there is evenly spread over the entire surface between the edge and spray edge (3). One or more outside rinsing channels (18) spread round the rotational axis lead from the inside of the bell to the outer ring chamber.
