Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of BPA, PVC, and styrene. According to the viscosity of the paint the surface coating can be achieved by partially overlapping adjacent dots of the applied paint or without overlapping by the running together of the adjacent dots of the liquid, with no excess material having to be applied to and subsequently removed from the regions to be coated.

A method of manufacturing a structural component having tailored material properties by applying an IR-absorbent coating to a substrate formed of a ferrous-based, aluminum-based, magnesium-based, or fiber reinforced composite material is provided. The coating is preferably formed of iron oxide (Fe 3 0 4 ) decorated multiwall carbon nanotubes. Alternatively, the coating is wax-based or polymer-based and includes TriSilanollsooctylt POSS and additives. Different coating compositions may be applied to different zones of the substrate so that the emissivity coefficient varies along the substrate. The coated substrate is heated and formed between a pair of dies to achieve a complex shape or features. The IR-absorbent coating increases the infrared absorption rate during the heating step, which improves formability of the substrate. The iron oxide (Fe 3 0 4 ) decorated multiwall carbon nanotubes can also be applied to an engine component to increase the thermal efficiency of the engine by reducing friction and enabling the use of light weight materials.

In the coil-coating process, a primer and a topcoat are applied to the metal strip. The coating agents used in this process are obtainable by mixing hydroxyl- and carboxyl-functional polyester, k-triazine resin or blocked polyisocyanate, organic solvents, catalysts and pigments, fillers and conventional auxiliaries and additives. It is essential to the invention that the primer contains, to achieve structuring of the surface, 0.01 to 0.05% by weight of a polyethylene wax having a softening point between 100 and 120 DEG C, preferably 100 to 110 DEG C, and having a grain size distribution from 5 to 35 mu m, preferably 5 to 25 mu m, if appropriate in combination with 0.01 to 5% by weight of tall oil alkyd resin additive and, if appropriate, in combination with a flow agent. The dry film thickness of the primer is up to 25 mu m and that of the topcoat is 10 to 23 mu m, preferably 14 to 20 mu m. The curing of the coating compositions takes place at a peak metal temperature from 200 to 260 DEG C within 25 to 70 seconds.

The coated strip is divided up in strip sections and the coated strip sections are then formed, joined and/or coated with at least one further paint-like coating and/or coat of paint. The paint-like coating is an aqueous dispersion that contains, in addition to water, at least one UV-crosslinkable water-soluble and/or water-dispersible resin, at least one wax as the forming additive, at least one photoinitiator, and at least one corrosion inhibitor. The coating is dried and, In another embodiment, the strip is first coated with at least one paint-like polymer containing coating without prior application of an anticorrosive coating.

A method is described for applying a continuous silkscreen pattern to cookware, which pattern extends from the base of the cookware, over a radius portion of the cookware to and into a side wall of the cookware. To achieve this a blank for forming a cookware product is first coated with a silicone polyester coating and baked at a first temperature. A desired pattern is then applied by a silkscreen process extending over not only the base portion of the blank but also that portion of the blank that will form the corner radius, and then the blank is baked for a second time at a higher temperature, before the blank is deformed and worked into the final cookware product.
